Airport is tourist friendly spot. But you may be hurry when you arrive in Japan, especially if you arrive in late night. As I wrote about late night arrival, trains do not run 24 hours. After midnight, the transportation to Osaka is very limited. Some of you want to know exact location of station, bus stop, ticket office.

In this post, I would like to show you these following topics:

  • Overview of Kansai airport arrival level
  • JR and Nankai Railway’s Kansai airport station
  • Limousine bus stops and ticket counter
  • High speed ferry service counter

*The information in this article is current at the time of writing.

In the middle of this floor, there are Kansai Tourist Information Center and Travel Desk.

  • Kintetsu Rail Pass

But if you have an exchange order or book online for Kansai Area Pass or Kansai Wide Area Pass, you have to proceed JR ticket office. It is located at the station. I will tell you later.

Limousine bus ticket can be purchased at the counter or vending machine. I think it is not a good idea to purchase a bus ticket at Travel Desk because it seems to be busy most of time.

You can get more information about Travel Desk at Kansai Airport Agency official site.

Limousine bus may be the best way for you. Especially if you go to Nara or Kobe, there is no direct train access. High Speed Ferry service is available to Kobe. But you have to take a train to get downtown Kobe after ferry arrive in the port.

All bus stops are located at same level, ground floor. You can simply exit the terminal building and find the bus stop. You can purchase a ticket at the counter in the terminal building or purchase it at the vending machine or ticket window outside building. There are lots of signage. You can find the bus stop, map, timetable and fare easily.

This is the fastest way to get Kobe. Trip time is 30 minutes from Kansai airport to Kobe port. Even though you have to take Kobe Portliner to get Sannomiya and spend 20 minutes, it is still faster than trip time by limousine bus, 1 hour 15 minutes.

Ferry service ticket counter is located at north end of the terminal building. When you exit from custom, turn right and walk to the end of the building.

Please find more information about ferry service at Kobe Bay Shuttle official site.

In Japan, luggage delivery service is very popular. When you take a train from airport, train has luggage space. But most of trains do not have luggage space. Luggage might be issue for your trip.

Managing luggage. How to carry your baggage on board and how to store your baggage at the station.

Usually it take one day to deliver and delivery fee is around 2,000 yen per luggage. When I ship full size suitcase (about 20kg) from Narita to Osaka, I paid 1870 yen. For example, if you travel Osaka and then Tokyo, you can divide into two luggage. And you can ship one of those luggage. You can ship it to your hotel too.

Luggage deliver service counters are located at both end of the terminal building.

I hope this guide make you be comfortable before you leave.

  1. Hi Takeshi san!

Please advise on what’s the best pass to get and the trains that I should take for the following itinerary:

DAY 1 – We will be arriving at KIX. From KIX, we plan to store our luggage at Namba Station. From Namba Station, our itinerary would include Ramen Museum, Osaka Castle and Dotonbori

DAY 2 – From Weekly Uehonmachi Hotel to Universal Studios

    Many thanks,
    Iky

      1. Thank you so much for the reply. Would you suggest to just get the ICOCA and pay for every train ride rather than get a pass?

  2. Hi Takeshi,

Hope you are well. My friend and I are considering to buy JR Pass. We will be arriving at Kansai airport on April 10, go straight to Tokyo for an overnight stay and then spend the rest of the week in Osaka until our flight back on April 15. We plan to explore Nara and Kyoto, as well. Will we be able to maximize our JR pass with our itinerary? Thanks. – Kat

      1. Thanks for the reply, Takeshi. We decide not to go to Tokyo and instead, spend overnight in Kyoto and the spend the rest in Osaka/Kobe/Nara. We plan to get Osaka Amazing Pass and Kansai Thru Pass to explore those cities, are these good deals?

  3. Hi Takeshi San,
I’ll be arriving at KIX at around 8:30am in May and will be heading straight to Weekly Uehonmachi Hotel. I understand that the nearest station is Tanimachi9-Chome. Can you please advise which train should I be taking?

  5. Hello Takeshi san
Flying into Kansai, staying in hotel overnight. I would like to take the ferry to Kobe next morning, then train onto Kurashiki where I am staying the next night. But is it easier to just take JR to Kurashiki? If I take JR do I have to change trains at Osaka?

    Many thanks
    Jo san

    1. Hi Jo san,

You should not take ferry but take trains. The suggested route is the following:
Kansai airport (Limited Express Haruka) Shin-Osaka

      Shin-Osaka (Sanyo Shinkansen) Okayama

  6. Hi Takeshi San,
I’ll arrive Kansai Apt by Jetstar at 1.20 am and would like to go to Kyoto. Is the earliest bus at 3 am to Osaka Herbis? Is there any connection fr there to Kyoto? If not, please advise how shall I continue.
    Thx
    Beatrice

    1. Hi Beatrice san,

You should stay in the airport until the morning. You can get Osaka by midnight bus. But there is no way to get Kyoto until morning. Stay in airport until morning and then take a train or bus to Kyoto. That is better way.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

    1. Hi Tracy san,

      a) I don’t know where this hotel is in Osaka. If airport is busy, you may not be able to take the last train and your choice is only midnight bus. Please see the link below:
