Ouchi-juku is one of many post-town throughout Japan. This town is not very well known for overseas travellers. But it is the National heritage site. There are lots of heritage building and traditional atmosphere. When I visited Yunokami Onsen, fortunately this town held winter festival. Even though I had only 1 hour there, I was very impressed.
I got off Aizu Railway’s train at Ashinomaki Onsen. But I did not intend to take a Onsen bath here. The reason why I got off was very popular Ramen noodle here in Ashinomaki Onsen and I wanted to catch another interesting Aizu Railway’s train after eating Ramen.
I transferred at Kinugawa Onsen station from Tobu Railway to Aizu Railway’s rapid trian “Aizu Mount Express”. Before I pen about this train, I want to explain about Aizu Railway. Please see the map below:
There are many steam locomotive trains in Japan. But this train, SL Banetsu Monogatari is only SL train that has Green seat. And it also has observation car, cafeteria and kids play space. I have received many nice photos of this train from one of my frequent reader, James. I would like to share the information of this train with you.

In summer season, the busiest period is mid August. This period is called “Obon (お盆)”. Everybody try to go back to hometown in this period. In this year 2012, August 10 to 19 will be Obon period. Especially the direction to go out from major cities on Aug 10-12 and the direction to go into major cities on Aug 17-19 will be much busier. These dates are weekend days. Everybody will try to move on these dates. If you travel in this period, try to go opposite direction. It makes you to travel much easier.
