I have received many inquiries about Nagoya-Osaka or Kyoto trip. There are lots of travellers who arrive in Chubu (Nagoya) airport and depart from Kansai (Osaka) airport or reverse or arrive in/depart from Chubu. Even if you have round trip between Nagoya and Osaka, JR Pass is too expensive choice. And there is no options to cover both Nagoya and Osaka/Kyoto by JR. One way ticket from Nagoya to Osaka or Kyoto by Shinkansen is very common choice. However JR is not only railway that connect Nagoya, Osaka and Kyoto. Kintetsu Railway that is the biggest private railway company operates many trains among these three cities, Nara, Ise and Yoshino. Kintetsu Railway has very useful deal for the travellers who want to travel in this area.
In this post, I would like to show you Kintetsu Rail Pass and Kintetsu Rail Pass Wide.
What is Kintetsu Railway?
In Japan, there are many railway services. This is the biggest reason why you are very confused. Kintetsu Railway is NON JR and the biggest private railway company in Japan. Of course this railway service is not covered by any JR deals, such as JR Pass, Kansai Area Pass. Please see the map below to find Kintetsu Railway network.
Kintetsu Rail Pass covers all part of this network. As you see the map above, you can use this railway to get Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka (Namba, Uehonmachi, Tsuruhashi), Nara, Yoshino and Ise. And this pass includes three vouchers to take Kintetsu Railway Limited Express. Kintetsu Railway Limited Express has very nice accommodation and have same level service as JR’s limited express train. I tell you about detail of this limited express train and coverage below.
You may know about Kansai Thru Pass. This pass covers Kintetsu Railway and other major private railways in Kansai area. But this pass does not include Nagoya and Ise. And it does not include Kintetsu Railway Limited Express train voucher. As long as you travel both Nagoya and Osaka/Kyoto, Kansai Thru Pass is not your first choice. Please find the detailed about Kansai Thru Pass at the link below:
How to use Kansai Thru Pass. Compare pass and single fare.
How good is Kintetsu Railway Limited Express?
Some of major private railway companies operate limited express as commute train without extra charge, such as Hankyu, Keihan and Hanshin. But Kintetsu operates limited express as special train. It has reserved seat only. You have to pay limited express surcharge on top of base fare and this limited express train has same level of interior as JR’s limited express train.
There are many kinds of fleets for limited express trains. But all fleets have 2+2 seat configuration and seat pitch is 1000 to 1050 mm. It is spacious and comfortable.
Especially if you travel between Nagoya and Osaka, trip time is more than 2 hours. The seat and interior are very important factor.
You can take limited express train up to three times by Kintetsu Rail Pass if you use it until the end of September, 2016. After 1st of October, 2016, you have to purchase a separate ticket to take limited express train.
Who is eligible
Visitors who land as “Temporary Visitor” status can purchase this pass. And Japanese who live in foreign country as permanent resident or who are married to a foreigner residing outside of Japan can purchase this deal as well.
Types and prices
A few types of pass, Kintetsu Rail Pass and Kintetsu Rail Pass wide are available.
Types | Purchase outside Japan | Purchase in Japan |
---|---|---|
Kintetsu Rail Pass 5-day | 3,700 yen | 3,900 yen |
Kintetsu Rail Pass Plus 5-day | 4,900 yen | 5,100 yen |
Child price is half amount of the adult price. It applies to child who is 6 to 11 years old. Adult price is applied to 12 years old and up.
5 year old or younger child is free. But when you take Limited Express train, all seats are reserved. You have to share your seat with your child. If you want to have a seat for your child, please purchase child pass for even 5 years old or younger child.
The pass must be used in consecutive days. The validity of a rail pass starts from 12 O’clock at night.
e.g.
If you start to use 5 days pass on May 1, the pass is expired at 23:59 on May 5.
Sales location
If you want to purchase an exchange order before you leave, you can find the authorized travel agent list at the link below:
Kintetsu Rail Pass official site
They may ship the exchange order to you by mail. Please contact the nearest vendor. Kintetsu Rail Pass Wide can be purchased at both Chubu airport and Kansai airport. But Kintetsu Rail Pass can be purchased at Kansai airport only. You can find the sales location in the airport at the link above as well.
Coverage area and valid transportation
Both Kintetsu Rail Pass and Kintetsu Rail Pass Wide covers all part of Kintetsu Railway network and include three limited express vouchers.
Kintetsu Rail Pass does not include limited express voucher. The separate ticket for taking limited express train is required.
Some of Kintetsu Railway Limited Express trains have upper class seat. But this pass covers ordinary reserved seat only. And Kintetsu Railway operates Sightseeing Limited Express “Shimakaze”. This train is not covered by this pass either.
If you do not want to pay any extra, you can take rapid express, express, semi express and local trains. These are commute trains. The interior is totally different from the limited express train.
When you take a train among Kyoto, Osaka and Nara, you can use these trains because of the short distance transfer.
Compare the pass and single fare
I would like to show you the fare table. Upper fare is base fare and lower is limited express surcharge.
station | Osaka (Namba) | Kyoto | Nara | Nagoya | Ise (Toba) |
Osaka (Namba) | – | 940 900 | 560 510 | 2360 1900 | 2040 1610 |
Kyoto | 940 900 | – | 620 510 | 2590 1900 | 2280 1610 |
Nara | 560 510 | 620 510 | – | 2250 1610 | 1940 1610 |
Nagoya | 2360 1900 | 2590 1900 | 2250 1610 | – | 1710 1320 |
Ise (Toba) | 2040 1610 | 2280 1610 | 1940 1610 | 1710 1320 | – |
station | Osaka (Osaka-Abenobashi) | Kyoto | Nara | Nagoya |
Yoshino | 970 510 | 1230 900 | 850 900 | 2390 2120 |
If you travel from Nagoya to Osaka or Kyoto by limited express by 30th of September, it is higher than Kintetsu Rail Pass at 3800 yen. It is really good deal for the traveller who wants to travel from Nagoya to Kyoto or Osaka. If you go to Ise from Kyoto, Osaka or Nara, it is better deal than single fare too. But if you visit Ise, Kintetsu Rail Pass Wide may be better deal for you. Please see next chapter.
If you travel after 1st of October, limited express voucher will not be included. You must have at least one round trip between Kansai area (Osaka, Nara and Kyoto) and Nagoya or Ise.
Compare cost and trip time between the Shinkansen fare and Kintetsu Rail Pass
Shinkansen is most common way to get Kyoto and Osaka from Nagoya. It is much faster than Kintetsu Railway Limited Express trains. But Shinkansen is much more expensive too. Before you decide to go for Kintetsu Rail Pass, you should compare these trains by cost and time.
Nagoya – Namba
Trains | Trip time | Fare |
Kintetsu Railway Limited Express | 2 hrs 30 mins | 3800 yen + Limited express surcharge |
Shinkansen (Nozomi) and Subway | 1 hr 20 mins | 6840 yen |
Shinkansen and subway combination is much faster but the cost is almost double. And Kintetsu Railway is direct access without any transfer. This is the strongest point.
Nagoya – Osaka (Umeda)
Trains | Trip time | Fare |
Kintetsu Railway Limited Express and JR local train | 2 hrs 45 mins | 3800 yen + Limited express surcharge + 180 yen (JR) |
Shinkansen (Nozomi) and JR local train | 1 hr 10 mins | 6560 yen |
You have to transfer at Shin-Osaka to get Osaka by the Shinkansen. But it is same station and very easy to transfer from the Shinkansen to JR local train. If you take Kintetsu Railway, you can transfer at Tsuruhashi to JR Osaka Kanjo line. It is much easier than transfer at Namba to subway. Tsuruhashi station is much smaller than Namba. JR and Kintetsu stations are connected directly.
Nagoya – Shin-Osaka
Trains | Trip time | Fare |
Kintetsu Railway Limited Express and Subway | 3 hrs | 3800 yen + Limited express surcharge + 280 yen (subway) |
Shinkansen (Nozomi) | 50 mins | 6560 yen |
Shin-Osaka is Shinkansen’s terminal station. Shinkansen is much more accessible than Kintetsu Railway. If you take Kintetsu Railway, you have to transfer at Namba to get subway. And subway fare is extra.
Nagoya – Kyoto
Trains | Trip time | Fare |
Kintetsu Railway Limited Express Need to transfer at Yamato-Yagi | 2 hrs 35 mins | 3800 yen + Limited express surcharge |
Shinkansen (Nozomi) | 36 mins | 5800 yen |
Both Kintetsu Railway and Shinkansen are direct access to Kyoto. Shinkansen is 2 hours faster than Kintetsu Railway Limited Express.
Nagoya – Nara
Trains | Trip time | Fare |
Kintetsu Railway Limited Express and Kintetsu local train Need to transfer at Yamato-Yagi | 2 hrs 15 mins | 3800 yen + Limited express surcharge |
Shinkansen (Nozomi) JR local train | 1 hr 30 mins | 6560 yen |
Shinkansen and JR trains are still faster than Kintetsu Railway. But the difference is smallest in all above cases.
Assessment
If you are really sensitive with cost, Kintetsu Rail Pass is a good choice for even Nagoya to Osaka or reverse one way trip. If you travel from Nagoya to Osaka and visit Nara and Kyoto, this pass gives you a huge savings.
Even though the Shinkansen is much faster, this pass is one of my most recommended deals.
Comments
How does it work when i exchange the Kintetsu limited express ticket voucher? I bring the voucher to the reservation ticket window to exchange for the actual limited express ticket? So when i board the train, i just need to show that limited express ticket, or do i still need to show the kintetsu rail pass together with the limited express ticket?
Hi CY,
You need to show your pass and limited express voucher at the window before on board. And you will receive an actual limited express seat ticket. All seats are reserved seat. You cannot take a limited express train without an actual limited express ticket.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Dear Takeshi-san
We plan to travel to Kanazawa/Kyoto/Ise & Toba/Osaka.
Hope you can give some advise :
~Narita to Kanazawa – JR pass
~Kanazawa to Kyoto – JR pass
~Kyoto to and back TOBA (1 day trip)- Kintetsu Wide Pass
~Kyoto to Osaka – JR pass
~Osaka to Kansai Airport – JR pass or Kintetsu Pass?
Can we buy Kintetsu Pass in advance from Singapore?
Does Kintetsu Pass covers the buses in Ise/Toba?
Thank you
Summy
Hi Summy san,
If you want to use JR Pass, you should use it to get Toba. You can get there by JR even though it takes longer than Kintetsu.
https://jprail.com/destinations/kansai-area/ise-access-guide-kintetsu-is-the-best-way-but-we-can-use-jr-pass-too.html
If you want to use Kintetsu, don’t use JR pass. It’s too expensive and is not paid off. Tokyo-Osaka Hokuriku Arch Pass is better choice.

Only Kintetsu Rail Pass “Wide” covers bus in Toba.

Dear Takeshi-san
We are planning to visit Nagoya and Kyushu in 11-21 Dec this year.
For Kyushu, we are thinking of visiting Fukuoka, Kumamoto & Kagoshima.
Do you know what is the best way to travel from Nagoya to Kyushu?
Any JR pass that can cover these places?
Thanks in advance for your valuable advice.
Cheers
Rebecca Tham
Hi Rebecca san,
You can take Shinkansen. It take 3.5 hour to 4 hours from Nagoya to Hakata. You have to change trains at Shin-Osaka or Shin-Kobe.
You must use JR pass (nationwide pass). This is only pass to cover Nagoya to Kyushu and Kyushu.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-visitors/japan-rail-pass-user-guide-how-to-use-jr-pass-to-its-maximum.html
You may take a domestic flight from Nagoya to Fukuoka, Kumamoto or Kagoshima. In this case, you can use Kyushu rail pass.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-visitors/kyushu-rail-pass-the-best-deal-for-rail-trip-in-kyushu-for-oversea-visitors.html
I have no idea about domestic flight fare because it’s varied and I cannot compare which one is cheaper, JR Pass or flight+Kyushu rail pass.

Hello Takeshi.
I am in Osaka now and my Kintetsu Pass 5 days expires today March 20. I still have 1 unused voucher of Limited Express. Can I still use this on my way to Nagoya tomorrow March 21?
Thank you!
Hi Tristan,
No, you cannot. As long as your pass is expired, you cannot use it any more.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Hello Takeshi.
Thank you for your feedback.
We tried our luck earlier today and the station honored our unused Limited Express vouchers despite the expired 5 day pass. We just paid the base fare of JPY2360 from Osaka to Nagoya.
Regards.
Hi Tristan,
Sounds good. So lucky! 🙂
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
I’m planning a trip flying to Nagoya from Hong Kong. Then take a few day trips from Nagoya to Osaka, Nagoya to Kyoto and Nara. After that will be going to Tokyo from Nagoya, stay at Tokyo for a few days then back to Nagoya to fly back to Hong Kong. Please let me know what pass is best for us to purchase?
Regards,
Crystal
Hi Crystal,
JR Pass 7 days is the best choice.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-visitors/japan-rail-pass-user-guide-how-to-use-jr-pass-to-its-maximum.html
Try to complete all trips in 7 days coverage and you will get a great saving.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
thank you takeshi for your response.
After reviewing your email,
April 2, we will buy the Kintetsu Pass 5 days in Chubu\MEITETSU TRAVEL PLAZA (inside the chubu AP) upon arrival at 55AM (will wait for window opening).
April 3, will go Ltd exp window in Kuwana station to book the next or available seat for Kuwana station to osaka-namba (via kintetsu Ltd exp using the voucher no.1). Base on Hyperdia it’s a direct way (122mins).
Hopefully we can ride the train without delay.
Then OSAKA-NAMBA to KINTETSU NIPPOMBASHI via Kintetsu Ordinary train as our room is located near market there.
April 4, Check out, KintetsuNIPPOMBASHI to YAMATOSAIDIJI to KYOTO via Ordinary train.
stroll in Kyoto
check in Super hotel near JR NARA around 7 or 8pm.
April 5, check out
KYOTO to KintetsuNARA via ordinary train on Kintetsu Pass.
stroll in NARA then going back to kuwana.
KINTETSUNARA to Yamato-Saidaiji
take limited express train from Yamato-Saidaiji to Yamato-Yagi (voucher no.2)
YAMATO-YAGI to Kuwana
Just wondering where we will use my voucher no.3.
April 6 will be graduation day in kuwana
april 7 will be USJ via car
april 8 will check in hotel yukkachi then possible buy 1 day pass (base on location to check) as our 5 days will be expired then.
april 9 nagayashi via car
april 10 will go back home
Hi Jason,
You should you 3rd voucher for Yamato-Yagi to Kuwana. It’s too far to take ordinary train.
What kind of one day pass are you going to buy for Yokkaichi? I don’t think Kintetus has one day pass for around Yokkaichi. As far as I know, single ticket is only choice for traveling around Yokkaichi.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
OK. Thanks Takeshi
I thought i will only use 1 voucher from KintetsuNARA to Kuwana. In my previous comment, i already indicated we will use the no.2 voucher to Yamato-Yagi to Kuwana
April 5,
KINTETSUNARA to Yamato-Saidaiji
take limited express train from Yamato-Saidaiji to Yamato-Yagi (voucher no.2)
YAMATO-YAGI to Kuwana
If that’s the case in Yokkachi then we will just use single ticket, we have a meet up there . Will search for more activity on Yokkachai
Hi Jason,
Unfortunately there is no direct train from either Kyoto and Nara to Nagoya and Kuwana. So you have to change the train at least twice when you travel from Nara to Kuwana. Those are Yamato-Saidaiji and Yamato-Yagi as we have already discussed.
So you will take two limited express train for Yamato-Saidaiji to Yamato-Yagi and Yamato-Yagi to Kuwana. You need to use two vouchers and all three vouchers will be used when you get Kuwana.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
It’s now clear Takeshi.
Thank you so much for your information as it is really a big help in saving the time and money in doing this trip.
Where we can rent a wifi for 5 days just incase we need help in our trip at least we can search via internet? also in chubu? .
Hi Jason,
Sorry, but I have never rent Wifi route in Chubu. Please try to find it by google.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Hi Takeshi,
Thank u for your reply. It is a big help to me. Do you have any idea until what time are kintetsu limited express train ticket booths open? Are they very busy during the weekends?
Hi Yvianne,
It depends on the station. But at major station, like Osaka-Namba, Tsuruhashi, Kintetsu-Nagoya, it’s open from 5:30 to 23:20.
Usually weekend is busier than weekdays but it’s hard to say how busy it is.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com

im thinking the transpo budget as in kintetsu 5days..kintetsu limited i read have a surcharge..how about the shinkansen which is most expensive? Does it have surcharge and will still need to buy other pass? just wondering that because of surcharge in kintetsu limited even with 3 coupon. it’s possible to cost more than shinkansen? Thank you so much
Hi Jason,
So you don’t need to have Kintetsu pass on April 7, do you? If so, I think 3 limited express vouchers are enough for your trip. You can take limited express from Kuwana to Osaka Namba, and Yamato-Yagi to Nagoya. Kyoto, Osaka and Nara are very closed each other and you don’t need to take limited express trains. Ordinary trains are okay.
You may take limited express train from Yamato-Saidaiji to Yamato-Yagi. There is no direct trains from Nara to Nagoya/Kuwana. You have to change the trains twice, at Yamato-Saidaiji and Yamato-Yagi. Please see the limited express train map at the link below:
http://www.kintetsu.co.jp/foreign/english/about/limited_express/network.html
Unfortunately timetable is not available. Only Hyperdia can show you the trains connection.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/basic-informations/timetable-and-reservation/hyperdia-perfect-guide-train-timetable-and-route-search-engine.html
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Thanks takeshi…yes only 5days kintetsu pass….and just extra 1day if needed.
April 3 Kuwana to osaka-namba (kintetsu limited express voucher no.1 plus surcharge)
April 4
Osaka-namba to kyoto (ordinary train via kintetsu pass ) then
Kyoto to kintetsu nara (ordinary train via kintetsu pass)
April5
Kintetsu nara to yamato-saidaji (ordinary train?) And yamato-saidaji to yamato-nagi (kintetsu limited voucher no.2 plus surcharge) then yamato-nagi to kuwana (ordinary train via kintetsu pass?)
am i right in these route?
Is shinkanse have surcharge too when using limited express?
can i use the limited express or pass on same time/day like for example we will be in kuwana station at 9am april 3 then is it possible we can ride the train going to osaka-namba at 930 or 10am? Not sure how the reservation works on limited express..my worry is that if we use the limited express and not reserve(how?) on that day/time ,it’s possible to wait many hours just to use it.
Thanks and you are very helpful.
Hi Jason,
I think you misunderstand limited express voucher. You can take limited express trains up to 3 times without any extra by Kintetsu pass.
You can book limited express seat by this voucher at any major Kintetsu railway stations, like Nagoya, Kuwana and Namba. You CANNOT ride limited express train without reservation. You can book it in advance if you want.
This pass gives you unlimited ride of ordinary train as many as you want.
On Apr 5, you can take ordinary train from Nara to Yamato-Saidaiji and Yamato-Saidaiji to Yamato-Yagi. And then take limited express from Yamato-Yagi to Kuwana. This segment is the longest in this day.
If you take Shinkansen, you have to pay base fare and Shinkansen surcharge. You can find the fare at Hyperdia too.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Hi Takeshi,
I already purchased Kintetsu rail pass wide for my trip route is Nagoya- Osaka, Osaka- Kyoto, Osaka- Kyoto , Osaka- Kobe (1/2day) Osaka- Nara, Osaka- Nagoya. I already have the 3 limited express train vouchers & plan to use them for 1. Nagoya- Osaka 2. Osaka- Nagoya 3.Kyoto-Osaka. Also what is best way from chubu airport to Sakae, Nagoya? Thinking to take Meitetsu limousine airport bus so it can drop me off at Oasis 21 mall? What is best way to get to Kobe should i use JR or a different line? Also I have Pasmo IC card will that work for Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto & Kobe local subways?
It’s now clear takeshi and thanks a lot about that. No need for me to worry on surcharge as the voucher will be enough for kintetsu limited express.
My last concern is on how to reserve the date/time after i purchase the kintetsu pass 5days in travel agency or online then will exchange it on actual pass on chubu AP upon arrival.
Also i read that only kinetsu pass WIDE is available on chubu AP to purchase but how about exchange? Is it possible to exchange to actual ticket in chubu AP?
We do not need the Kintetsu wide pass because we will have a service upon arrival in chubu AP.
Again, you are a big help to a tourist like me.
Hi Jason,
You can decide which date you will start to use when you exchange the pass.
You can purchase Kintetsu rail pass (not wide) in Chubu airport. They don’t sell only 1 day and 2 days pass.
http://www.kintetsu.co.jp/foreign/english/access/ngo.html
If you purchase it, you can pick the date of starting to use.
If you purchase an exchange order before you leave, you cannot exchange it at Chubu. You have to go to Kintetsu Nagoya station. You cannot exchange it at Kuwana either. Please see “Purchasing the Voucher and Exchanging it in Japan” in the link below:
http://www.kintetsu.co.jp/foreign/english/ticket/get.html
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Thanks takeshi..good news for that voucher as no extra cost for limited express.
How to reserve on advance if we will exchange for actual pass once we arrive on april 2 chubu AP.. We will use the limited on april 3 at 9am from kuwana to osaka-na
We will buy kintetsu pass 5 days in travel agency. Not sure if we can exchange it on chubu ap.
Thank you
Hi Jason,
As I mentioned previous reply, you cannot exchange it at Chubu. Don’t purchase it before leave and purchase it in Chubu.
Once you get an actual pass, you can book. But you cannot book it at Chubu because it’s not Kintetsu station. You can book it at major Kintetsu station, like Nagoya, Kuwana.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Hi takeshi,
Im reading your comment and would like to know on how to reserve the kintetsu limited L, considering we will just exchange it on actual ticket upon arrival (kintetsu pass 5 days)
Arriving at chubu AP , can we exchange it? I read that only kintetsu pass wide?thanks
Hi Michelle,
You can purchase Kintetsu rail pass (not wide) at Chubu but you cannot exchange it.
You cannot book at Chubu. You need to get major Kintetsu railway station, like Nagoya.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
I got an error when i tried to send the reply but it turns out that it was posted.
thank you takeshi
Ok as advised base on our plan we will purchase the kintetsu pass 5 days upon arrival (april 2) in chubu AP at 55am (655am japan)
Good timing for the opening window.
Then we will reserve in kintetsu nagoya line from kuwana to osaka-namba on april 3 9am..or possible in kuwana and no need to go in nagoya just to get a reservation in kintetsu limited going to osaka-namba?
is it possible we do advance booking via hyperdia for april 3 kuwana or nagoya to osaka-namba via kintetsu limited then just give the voucher in real time?
we do not want to wait or in worst case cannot ride a limited express from kuwana or nagoya to osaka-namba because we are late to reserve or the no more available seat..
unless we go there at april 3 9am then go to limited window to reserve or book and hope we can ride at 10am?
We want to make sure we can ride the limited express at 10am on april 3.
You are very kind in answering all my questions.
Hi Jason,
As long as you get an actual Kintetsu rail pass, you can book a seat on limited express at the station where limited express makes a stop. Kuwana is a station where limited express makes a stop. So you can book it there by using your limited express voucher.
I cannot guarantee that you can book 10:00 am train at 9:00 am. It depends on how busy it will be so I cannot guess. All I can say that you may try to book as early as possible.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Also is there a way to book kintetsu limited express train online? I already have voucher from the Kintetsu rail pass wide pamphlet.
Hi Yvianne,
Unfortunately there is no direct trains between Kyoto and Osaka. You have to change the trains at Yamato-Saidaiji. Please see the limited express trains map at the link below:
http://www.kintetsu.co.jp/foreign/english/about/limited_express/network.html
Limited Express train run very few between Nara and Osaka-Namba. You will take ordinary train between Yamato-Saidaiji and Osaka-Namba.
I’m not very familiar with limousine bus from Chubu. But this is only way to get Sakae directly from Chubu. But this bus is not covered by Kintetsu pass wide. You can take only Meitetsu railway train between Chubu and Nagoya station. You need to take subway but subway is not covered by the pass either.
Kintetsu railway and Hanshin railway connect each other. You can take Hashin railway from Osaka-Namba too. If you want, you can get Kobe-Sannomiya from Nara by Kintetsu directly. But between Osaka-Namba and Kobe-Sannomiya is not covered by Kintetsu rail pass wide.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/tips-for-japan-rail-pass/how-to-transfer-among-kyoto-osaka-and-kobe-compare-japan-railway-and-private-lines.html
There is no online reservation available. You have to make a reservation after arrival at any major Kintetsu railway stations, like Nagoya, Osaka-Namba. But you can book in advance. So you can book for Osaka to Nagoya at Nagoya station too.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Hi Takeshi,
Can you recommend the best route going to Nara from Ogura Kintetsu or JR Ogura? Thank you.
Hi Jennifer,
It’s located between Nara and Kyoto on both JR and Kintetsu line. So you can take either JR Nara line or Kintetsu Kyoto line. Kintetsu may be a bit faster but not much different.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Hi Takeshi,
Thank you for your reply 🙂
From Ogura Kintetsu, is it direct train (no stop) to Kintetsu Nara Station? If not, how many transfers? Where we can transfer? I’m sorry I’m not familiar and I am very confuse with Kintetsu lines. Thanks again.
Hi Jennifer,
Some local trains go directly to Ogura without transfer. Mostly you need to transfer at Yamato-Saidaiji station.
You can find it at Hyperdia. Put “Kintetsunara” and “Ogura” on hyperdia and find the timetable and transfers.

My Itinerary is Day 1: Arrive at Nagoya International Airport, Staying at at hotel in Nagoya and going to tour Nagoya Day 2: Go to Osaka, Staying at a Hotel in Osaka and Tour Osaka Day 3: Tour Kyoto Day 4: Universal Studios Japan Day 5: Go To Tokyo, Staying at a Hotel in Tokyo, Tour Tokyo Day 6: Tokyo Disneysea Day 7: Depart at Narita International Airport. Thank you in Advance!
Hi Francess,
Unfortunately there is no deal to Tokyo one way trip. You need to add single fare from Osaka or Nagoya to Tokyo. If you want to save your budget, use Kintetsu rail pass to get Nagoya and change Shinkansen to Tokyo. If you want to save your time, just take Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo. You can find the fare at hyperdia.

From Tokyo to Narita, budget bus runs from Tokyo station to Narita.

Otherwise single fare is only your choice for access to Narita too.

Hi Takeshi! Thanks for the help. How can I search in hyperida direct trains from Nagoya to Osaka that is operated by Kintetsu. Also are the Kintetsu operated trains have departure in Nagoya in the morning or before 12pm.
Hi Francess,
You can select only private railway and limited express in the check box and you may find it.

Kintetsu limited express runs every one hour in all day.

Hi Takeshi! Thanks for all you help. I would like to ask again can I use my kinketsu rail pass on my trip from Osaka to Kyoto or Nara and back again to Osaka on a day trip.
Hi Francess,
Yes, you can. But it does not cover local transportation in Kyoto, such as subway and bus. In Nara, most of places can be accessed from station by walk, but in Kyoto, you need to ride bus or subway to visit most of places. You may need to add subway or/and bus pass in Kyoto.

Hi Takeshi,
I will be arriving Nagoya on 18th of March then 19 Osaka, 20 Kyoto, 21 Kobe, 21 Kyoto 22 NaRA, 23 Osaka then 24 back Nagoya would the 5 day kintetsu pass be more economical to get?
Hi Yvianne,
You may use Kintetsu rail pass but you need two passes. Even if you purchase two passes, it’s still cheaper than single fares.
However Kintetsu pass does not cover local transportation, such as subway and city bus in Osaka and Kyoto. You may need to add single fare of subway pass.

And Kobe is not in coverage area either. Please see the link below to find more info about Kobe.

Nara is in coverage area of Kintetsu rail pass.
