But please be careful that Haruka does not stop at Osaka station. It stop at Tennoji and Shin-Osaka. If you want to go to Osaka station, you have to transfer to the local train at Shin-Osaka. We have an Airport limousine bus to many place in Greater Osaka and Hi-speed ferry service to Kobe. So if you go to Greater Osaka area, I recommend you to take other transportation.
And also if you stay several days in downtown Osaka, please think about saving your rail pass days. Please refer this tips.

Hi Takeshi,
We are a family of four. We are planning to arrive in Kansai Airport around 9.30pm and will be heading to our hotel next to Shin-Osaka station.
We are planning to stay in hotel at Shin-Osaka hotel for 5 days.
I m planning to go Universal Studio for one of the days and go Kyoto for day trips (can’t stay in Kyoto hotels because of our Shin-Osaka hotel deal and hence may need to go to and fro between Shin-Osaka and Kyoto).
After that, we will move on to Tokyo Shinjuku and stay there for 1 week before heading to Narita airport to go home.
Can you help to advise me what type of tickets is best recommended ?
Thank you.

Hello, Takeshi!
My arrival at KIX is at almost 10 PM. I’d like to know my options so I can get to Shin-Osaka Station and if I can use my JR Pass with them.
Your response is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much ^^
Hi Soryuu,
Unfortunately the last departure of Haruka is 22:16. I don’t think you can take it. You will take rapid train to Osaka and then transfer to a local train to Shin-Osaka. There is no direct trains option available.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/how-to-get-kansai-airport-and-wakayama-kansai-airport-rapid-service-and-kishuji-rapid-service.html
Rapid train runs to Osaka every 15 to 20 minutes until around 23:30. Train runs very frequently from Osaka to Shin-Osaka until around 01:00.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
This is very helpful. Thank you!
No worries, Soryuu.

Hi,
I would travelling with my family to Kansai area in late May.
There will be four of us. It will be me & my wife, plus one 13 year old and another 11 year old children.
One 1st stop upon reaching Kansai Airport would be Kyoto via express rail. After spending a few days in Kyoto, we will make our way to Osaka and spend a few days there too.
On the day of departure, we intend to take the express rail from Shin-Osaka to Kansai Airport.
Which pass would you recommend?
Hi Tan,

Hello, I arrived at Kansai airport at 9:40 pm. Can you please help me how to get to Kyoto?
Hi Tim,
I recommend you to take limousine bus because the last direct train, Haruka to Kyoto depart from Kansai at 22:16. I don’t think you can take this.
Please see the link below to find the info about limousine bus to Kyoto. This is only way to get Kyoto directly after the last Haruka leaving.

Hi takeshi,
I will be arriving at Kansai airport and will be staying
near karasuma-okie station in Kyoto.
I will be staying there for 8 nights
6 days I will be touring in Kyoto.
On 2 days I will be on round trip to Osaka namba area and Kobe.
On the last day I will be going back from Kyoto to kansai airport.
Can u recommend me a good package to buy?
Hi John,
You may use Haruka discount ticket round trip to Kyoto at 3200 yen.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-visitors/icoca-and-haruka-ticket-very-flexible-and-good-deal-for-tourist-who-stay-in-kansai.html
You may add Kansai one pass on top of this deal.
http://kansaionepass.com/en/about.html?info=1
In Kyoto, you can use city deal.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-residents/how-to-choose-the-best-train-pass-for-sightseeing-in-kyoto.html
All day bus pass is most affordable. If you have Kansai one pass, just get all day bus pass and use Kansai one pass when you need to take trains.
You may use Kansai thru pass to get Osaka and Kobe.

Hi takeshi,
Thanks for yr recommendation.
Actually I am thinking of buying the ICOCA card & Haruka discount ticket. I will use the ICOCA card for all my travels. And the Haruka discount ticket for my round trip from Kansai airport to Kyoto station.
Not sure if I can buy both tickets together at the JR West counter.
And one question. Can the ICOCA card be used on all the kansai trains, be it JR, Haruka , local and private railway etc, with the exception of the Shinkansen?
Hi John,
You can do all trips by ICOCA. It covers all JR local trains, Non JR lines, subways and city bus. But Kansai one pass is better choice than ICOCA. It’s same type of card but this one offers discount at many attractions.
http://kansaionepass.com/en/
If you want to take Shinkansen by Kansai one pass, you need to buy limited express surcharge ticket beside this card. This card covers base fare only.
If you want to take Haruka other than KIX-Kyoto and Kyoto-KIX, you need to have limited express surcharge ticket too.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
How about I buy the ICOCA card and Kansai one pass together? In this way, I can use the ICOCA card as backup if the Kansai one pass is not applicable for a particular journey.
And on the last day, I can redeem back the remaining amount on the cards at the airport.
Do I need to get the ICOCA card if I want to get the discount ticket for the Haruka limted express train?
Hi John,
It doesn’t make any senses to have both ICOCA and Kansai one pass. Kansai one pass made from ICOCA. Both have same coverage in Kansai area.
You don’t need to have ICOCA to get Haruka discount ticket. You can buy just Haruka discount ticket. ICOCA or/and Kansai one pass is not required.
Cheers,
Takeshi / JPRail.com
Hi Takeshi,
I’m currently in Osaka .
My itinerary is to go around dotonburi, osaka castle and also Kyoto .
Which card do you recommend to buy? And also how do I get to Kansai airport from Shin Osaka station? Btw, I have a suica card so is it enough?
Hi Crystal,
You can find the deals in Osaka and Kyoto at the link below:
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-residents/how-to-choose-the-best-train-pass-for-sightseeing-in-osaka.html
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-residents/how-to-choose-the-best-train-pass-for-sightseeing-in-kyoto.html
But you need to use Suica to get Kyoto station.
You can use Suica but if you want to take Haruka, don’t use Suica and buy Haruka discount ticket (1,300 yen) at Shin-Osaka.
https://jprail.com/travel-informations/other-rail-passes/rail-pass-for-visitors/icoca-and-haruka-ticket-very-flexible-and-good-deal-for-tourist-who-stay-in-kansai.html
It includes base fare and express fee. You don’t need to use Suica.
