Narita airport is well known as the international airport in Tokyo. But since the government allows Haneda to increase the slot of the international flights, the number of the international flights departs from and arrive at Haneda airport has been increasing in these days.

In this post, I would like to show you the access between Haneda airport and downtown Tokyo. I will explain you about the deals too.

Overview

Haneda is located in the metro Tokyo 23 municipalities. Haneda is much closer to downtown Tokyo than Narita.

You may get downtown Tokyo by Tokyo Monorail, Keikyu railway and Airport Limousine bus. In this post, I will explain about these access between airport and downtown Tokyo and some deals for these airport access. But before I explain this I would like to tell about the procedure of arrival.

How to find the way to get a bus or a train at Haneda airport international terminal

Actually it is quite simple. When you exit from the immigration and the custom area, you will see the hall, like the picture below.

You will find Airport Limousine bus ticket counter on your left hand side right after you exit from the immigration and the custom area.

Airport Limousine bus ticket counter

Just keep going straight from the exit and you will find Tokyo Monorail station and Keikyu station. Those are just a few steps away from.

Tokyo Monorail station will be on your left hand side. (C) JP Rail
Keikyu station will be on your right hand side. (C) JP Rail

It takes less than one minute to get the station from the exit of the immigration and the custom. Many station staffs are there to help you how to buy a ticket and find a direction. And also there are lots of signages in a few languages. It is very travelers friendly.

JR East Travel Service Center (JR Pass and other JR passes exchange place)

JR East Travel Service Center is next to Tokyo Monorail ticket gate. This photo was take in a few years ago. Now this travel center is bigger.

JR East has Travel Service Center at Tokyo Monorail Haneda Airport International Terminal station. You can exchange/purchase JR pass, JR East Pass, Tokyo Wide Pass and some more JR deals here. You can start using the pass right after you arrive at Haneda in Japan if you like. Please see the link below to find the detailed information:

JR East official site – Haneda Airport service center

If you arrive at Haneda in very early morning or very late night, you may not be able to exchange/purchase Pass. Shinagawa station or Tokyo station is the substitute choice.

JR Pass and all JR deals cover Tokyo Monorail only. You cannot take Keikyu Railway, Airport Limousine bus and any other bus services.

Tokyo Monorail

Tokyo Monorail

Tokyo Monorail runs between Haneda airport and Hamamatsucho. It takes 18 minutes by the fastest train, “Haneda Express” which stops at a few major stations only. It takes 23 minutes by other monorail trains.

Tokyo Monorail runs every 3 to 5 minutes in daytime. And it runs in 5 to 10 minutes in very early morning and very late night. Monorail starts to run around 05:00 am and the last one run around midnight.

Hamamatsucho is three stations away from Tokyo station by JR Yamanote line. If you want to take the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto or Osaka after arrival at Haneda, you have to take Yamanote line to get Tokyo station.

You may find the information about Hamamatsucho station in the post below:

If you use JR Pass or other JR rail passes, Tokyo Monorail is covered and you may take this. However if you Keikyu Railway, you can get Shinagawa directly from Haneda and catch the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka. Even though Keikyu is not covered by JR Pass or other JR deals, please consider to pay extra and get Keikyu railway. It is much easier to take the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto or Osaka. I will explain about Keihin Kyuko Railway later.

If you take the Shinkansen to get Kanazawa, Toyama, Sendai, Hakodate, you can get Tokyo station by Tokyo Monorail and Yamanote line. You cannot catch the Shinkansen to these places at Shinagawa.

If you stay at the major hotel in downtown Tokyo, you may take Airport Limousine bus. You can get the hotel directly. I will explain about Airport Limousine later as well.

Recommended deal – Monorail and Yamanote Line Discount Ticket

Keikyu Railway

Keihin Kyuko Railway - Airport Limited Express
Keikyu Railway – Airport Limited Express

Keikyu is one of the major private railway companies in Tokyo. This railway connects Haneda airport and Shinagawa. It takes 16 to 18 minutes by the fastest train, Airport Limited Express. But Airport Limited Express is operated in daytime only. Most of trains are Airport Express. This train stops all stations between Haneda terminal and Keikyu-Kamata. And also it stops at a few stations between Keikyu-Kamata and Shinagawa. It takes about 25 minutes by Airport Express.

The train runs every 5 minutes during daytime and 10 minutes during early morning and late night.

Please check the detailed information in the official site:

Keihin Kyuko Haneda Access website

Shinagawa is one of the biggest terminal stations in downtown Tokyo. And as I mentioned above, the Tokaido Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto and Shin-Osaka stops at Shinagawa. You can change the trains easily in Shinagawa. Please find the information about Shinagawa station in the post below:

Keikyu Railway also runs on Toei Subway Asakusa line. Please see the route map at the beginning in this post. Keikyu Railway, Toei Subway and Keisei Railway are connected and these three company’s trains go through each other. That means you can get Asakusa and other stations on Toei Subway directly from Haneda. Most of Airport Limited Express and Airport Express go through this subway line.

As I told you above, if you stay at the major hotel in other areas in Tokyo, you may take Airport Limousine bus.

Recommended deal – Keikyu Haneda/Subway Common Pass

This deal offers Keikyu Railway from Haneda to downtown Tokyo and Tokyo subway one day unlimited ride. Keikyu Railway offers several deals. Please see the link below to find more information about these deals.

The first one is “Multi voucher” and “Return voucher”. These are two round trips and round trip discount ticket. If you look for the deal which covers only Limousine bus, this deal is recommended.

The second one is Limousine and Subway pass. This is same type of the deal as Keisei Skyliner and Tokyo Subway Ticket which I explained above in this post.

I picked only two deals here but you can find all deals in the official site :

Late arrival and early departure

Many flights arrive at Haneda in early morning or late night. If your flight arrives late night and/or depart in early morning, you have to think how to move between Tokyo and Haneda. You may find the late night and early morning train schedule in my PDF timetable. Please find it in the link below:

Due to COVID-19, it may be operated on a schedule different from the normal timetable. Check the train schedule on Hyperdia.
Hyperdia perfect guide, train timetable and route search engine

I show several sample schedules between Haneda and some places in Tokyo by Monorail and Keihin Kyuko. Please see the post at, How to take Tokyo Monorail or Keihin Kyuko for late arrival and early departure at Haneda.

I hope this post gave you the way to move between Tokyo and Haneda.

    Hi Takeshi,

How are doing today? I’ve got more questions for you 🙂
    Please correct if im wrong.

    1) When we reach Haneda Airport on Sunday at 22.30,will be heading straight to Tokyo Station so my best option is Keikyu Line – Shinagawa – JR Yamanote – Tokyo Station
What is the operating hours for this services? What if theres a delay? What other options do we have other than taxi if all trains and bus is closed for the night?

    2) My flight back is 23.45 so i have a of lot time to enjoy our last day in Japan but our luggages is a burden, where can we check-in the luggages after we leave the hotel. Any place to recommend?

    Thanks

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Desmond,
      1) Kehin kyuko line is operated until 00:00am. Yamanote line is operated until 00:30am. So as long as your flight arrive on time. it will be okay. If your flight delay and miss the train, you need to take a cab.
      2) Hotel is the best place to keep the luggage. Because most of hotel keep it for free. But if you don’t like to go back the hotel, as far as I know, you can use baggage service at Tokyo station. But they open from 10:00 to 18:00. It is located at Yaesu underground central exit in Tokyo station. Tokyo station is quite huge. It may be hard to find there.
Most of stations have a locker (coin operated). But this is too small for overseas travellers.

Hi Takeshi, When I arrive at Heiwajima station from Haneda and change to the local train,
    a) Do I have to change platform for local train?
    b) How do I know which one is a LOCAL train?
    c) Where do I buy the ticket for the local train?
    Thank you
    Tan

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Tan,
      a) No. See this image. This is Heiwajima station.
      b) Check the sign on the train and the platfom. It says, “Local”.
      c) All you have to do is buying the ticket to Omorikaigan at Haneda. That’s it.

  3. Tessa says:

    Hi Takeshi

I will arrive at Haneda airport at 22.30 on Oct 27, 2011 and will stay in Roppongi Duplex Tower. I have checked the limousine bus schedule and the last bus to Roppongi depart at 22.55, which i believe that i may not be able to catch it.

Do you have any suggestion on how to go to Roppongi from Haneda airport around 23.00 – 23.30? How much the taxi fare from Haneda to Roppongi?

    Appreciate your recommendation.

    Thanks
    Tessa

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Tessa,
The cheapest way to get Keihin Kyuko from Haneda to Shinagawa. You can find the info about Keihin Kyuko on this post. And then, take a can from Shinagawa to Roppomgi. It costs about 2000 to 2500 yen. If you miss the last train of Keihin Kyuko, you need to take a cab from Haneda to Ropponngi. It costs around 7500 yen.

  4. Tan says:

Hi Takeshi, Arriving Haneda at 10.30pm. Am going to Omori Kaigan station. You mentioned I have to change train at Keikyu Kamata. Is there a DIRECT train from Haneda airport to say Heiwajima station? From there I take a taxi to Omori Kaigan. It will be late by the time by the time I arrive and dont want to miss or look for the train change. Please advise. Thank you
    Tan

    • JPRail says:

      Hello Tan,
Yes, you can go to Heiwajima from Haneda. And you can transfer the train there from Express (from Haneda) to local. Heiwajima is not big station. So you cannot miss it.
If you miss it, get off the station and take a cab. It cost around 1000 yen.
      Takeshi / JP Rail

  5. Tan says:

Hello Takeshi, I will be arriving at Haneda at 10.30 pm on the 8th November. Am staying at the Sunroute Patio Omori Hotel near the Omori Kaigan station.I understand I have to take the Keihin Kyuko line to my destination. Please advise whether this is correct?. Also do I have to change trains or the train goes direct to Omori Kaigan station? What time is the last train?
If I miss the last train, how much is the taxi fare from Haneda to Omori Kaigan?. An early reply is appreciated.
    Tan

    • JPRail says:

      Hello Tan,
Yes, you are correct. You need to take Keihin Kyuko and get off the train at Omori Kaigan station.
Most of the train from Haneda go to Shinagawa or further than Shinagawa. It is same direction as Omori Kaigan. But most of train from the airport are express train. It does not stop at Omori Kaigan. So you need to change to local train at Keikyu Kamata.
If you take a taxi, it will cost around 3500 yen.

    • JPRail says:

      Hello Fioon,
I don’t understand your question about a fare. But you need to pay a single fare to Tokyo anyway.
If you stay at Togendai, it is better than Odawara and Gotenba in any season. Togendai is located beside Ashinoko Lake.
And I don’t have a timetable of the bus. But you may find it here at Hakone Navi.
      Takeshi / JP Rail

      • Fioon says:

Hello Takeshi, sorry for the confusion. The question came in because im leaving hakone to tokyo but arrived hakone from kyoto. Question is which freepass worth. The hakone freepass have 2types, 1st type 3,900¥ start&end odawara & i got to pay additional fare from odawara back to tokyo. Second type 5,000¥ allow me togo back shinjuku with only 1,100¥ extra minus off 3,900¥. Because i would like to go gotemba outlet, was it better to use odukyu highway bus from gotemba back to shinjuku using the 5,000¥ freepass? or go backward to odawara and take train to tokyo? On day that,my 7jr pass has ended.

  7. EM says:

    Dear JPRail,

Our flight(Air Asia) will be touching down at 22:30pm at Haneda Airport. We have booked our hotel in Osaka. What train line do we take to Osaka? Is the time enough before the tain closes at 00:01 from Haneda airport direct to Osaka? Or should we put a night stay in Tokyo first?

We also plans to visit Kyoto, Kobe, Disneyland and last day in Tokyo before we take our flight home at Haneda airport. What train line should we take. Why do we need to exchange the JR pass when we reach in Japan? We will buy the JR Passes in Malaysia.

Your prompt advice is much appreciated.

    EM

    • JPRail says:

      Hello EM,
Unfortunately you cannot go to Osaka on arrival day. It’s too late to go. If you need to go to Osaka, you need to be Haneda by 19:00. So you need to stay in Tokyo.
Next question… DO you mean you want to go to Kobe, Kyoto and Disneyland in one day? It is too much. You may spend one hour from Kobe to Kyoto by local train. And another 2 hours and 30 minutes from Kyoto to Tokyo by Shinkansen. Moreover you will spend another 30 minutes from Tokyo to Disneyland. If you want, you can do it. But it will be very very tight.
And I don’t have an answer. But I guess Japan Railway don’t want to give an actual pass to the agent.
      Takeshi / JP Rail

      • EM says:

Thank you so much Takeshi for your advices. I appreciated it. With your advice to stay 1 night in Tokyo upon touching down, we have 6 days(exclude 2days in the flight) to visit Fukuoka-1D, Hiroshima-1D, Kobe&Kyoto-1D, Nagoya&Osaka-1D, Tokyo&Yokohama-1D
and Disneyland-1D. We take Shinkansen & local trains can cover all places and use JR Pass is suffecient?
May i know what time the train service starts, 6am?

        • JPRail says:

          Hello EM,
Shinkansen and local train will cover your trip. It is covered by Japan Rail Pass.
Local train usually is operated between 06:00 am and 24:00 am. But Shinkansen is operated between 06:00 and 21:00. You can check the detailed timetable at Hy;perdia.

            Good Day Takashi,
When we touch down at Haneda airport at 10:30pm, is the JR pass exchange counter still open? Do we take Shinkansen or local train from the airport to hotel in Tokyo? If JR pass cannot be used, what is the cheapest mode of transport to take?

Your prompt reply is much appreciated.

  8. Hana says:

I plan to visit Tokyo middle of October 2011 & stay in Shinjuku area. I will arrive Haneda airport @ 22:30 by airasia. What’s the best way to travel from Haneda airport – Shinjuku – Haneda airport? Also plan to visit Hakone (Mt. Fuji), Kamakura & Nikko. How do we travel to these places from Shinjuku? Thank you.

    • JPRail says:

      Hello Hana,
If you go to Shinjuku from Haneda airport, Limousine bus is the best.
When you go to Hakone and Kamakura from Shinjuku, Odakyu railway takes you there directly. But if you have a plan to use Japan Rail Pass, Odakyu is private railway company. Japan Rail Pass does not cover it. If you need more info about Odakyu, please refer Odakyu Railway website.
And when you go to Nikko from Shinjuku, take limited express Nikko. This train depart from Shinjuku for Nikko. Please refer this post about the details.

    Hi JP Rail ,

Lovely site you have here , it is very good.

Anyways I will arrive at Haneda Airport at 10:30PM Sunday. May I ask what transportation is available after 11 PM to Bluewave Inn Hotel , Asakusa?

Also is it possible to buy weekly unlimited JP Rail pass for all lines?

    Thank you!

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Lolcat,
Take Keihin Kyuko train from Haneda airport. Some of trains go through Toei Asakusa subway line. Even if the train that you catch does not go through Toei Asakusa line, you can transfer the train at Sengakuji. Sengakuji is one station away from Shinagawa.
Do you mean that you want to buy 7 days Japan Rail Pass here in this site? This is not official site. So I do not sell a pass here. Please try to find the nearest agent in this site.

Hello,i have only 9 days to visit.wish to skip tokyo n visit some places that s not tourist place.any recommendation?

I browse thru forum, might set the itinary to visit kyoto, nara n osaka n perhap drop by mt fuji but am finding a better route than this. Flight alight n board in haneda.

Was thinking to purchase prepaid card for trport,is suica better?

    Appreaciate ur recommendation thankyou!

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Fioon,
It depends on how many days you like to spend in Kyoto. But if you want to go something different, I recommend you Takayama, Shirakawago and Kanazawa. See this post.
Do you think you’ll use Suica for transport to Kyoto/Osaka? If so, it is useless. Suica is not available for Shinkansen. Japan Rail Pass is the best choice. If you really want to take Nozomi, buy a single ticket.
      Takeshi / JP Rail

      • Fioon says:

Hi Takeshi, thanks for the suggestion. the trip is on ard 16th oct, shirakawago is spring/winter?

Do you mean JR Pass is the best choice IF travel hit tokyo/osaka/kyoto/nara ? I thought i read some train is not boardable with JR Pass.

Reach haneda at 10.30pm, dont wish to stay over9 in tokyo. any chances of nightrain/bus to board to nice place? so good to be true if there is…which i have search highlow don have.

        Fioon

        • JPRail says:

          Hi Fioon,
JR Pass cover most of JR trains. So when you go to Kyoto/Osaka, you can take Shinkansen (Bullet train) by JR Pass. The fastest train, “Nozomi” is not covered by JR Pass. But the second fastest train, “Hikari”, can be used by JR Pass. Most of travelleres do not have any problem with Hikari.
You need to stay overnight in Tokyo on the arrival day. You need to expect the flight delay. It is not good idea to take overnight transfer on arrival day. And also, even if your flight arrive on time, it is too late to take overnight service.
          Takeshi / JP Rail

          • Fioon says:

Hi Takeshi, thanks for the prompt reply.
If let say i only target Kansai area (kyoto, nara, osaka), shall i buy JR Kansai 3day+2day pass and buy open ticket on return tokyo-
            osaka ?

            thanks

            • JPRail says:

              Hello FIoon,
JR Pass is still better than JR Kansai Pass. Because the return ticket between Tokyo and Osaka is around 23000yen. And you will take several trains in Kyoto, Osaka and Nara. As a result, JR Pass is cheaper than single ticket + JR Kansai pass.
              Takeshi / JP Rail

                TQ

                • JPRail says:

                  Hi Fioon,
It depends on what time your flight depart. If your flight depart in the morning, you should stay in Tokyo.
                  Takeshi / JP Rail

                  • Fioon says:

Tq so much

                      Hi Fioon,
I recommend you Takayama or Kiso valley. But both places are not really close to Mt. Fuji. If you want to stay at the place where is really close to Mt. Fuji, Lake Hamanako will be considerable. But Takayama or Kiso Valley give you more traditional Japanese atmosphere.
