Narita airport is well known as the international airport in Tokyo. But since the government allows Haneda to increase the slot of the international flights, the number of the international flights departs from and arrive at Haneda airport has been increasing in these days.

In this post, I would like to show you the access between Haneda airport and downtown Tokyo. I will explain you about the deals too.

Overview

Haneda is located in the metro Tokyo 23 municipalities. Haneda is much closer to downtown Tokyo than Narita.

You may get downtown Tokyo by Tokyo Monorail, Keikyu railway and Airport Limousine bus. In this post, I will explain about these access between airport and downtown Tokyo and some deals for these airport access. But before I explain this I would like to tell about the procedure of arrival.

How to find the way to get a bus or a train at Haneda airport international terminal

Actually it is quite simple. When you exit from the immigration and the custom area, you will see the hall, like the picture below.

You will find Airport Limousine bus ticket counter on your left hand side right after you exit from the immigration and the custom area.

Airport Limousine bus ticket counter

Just keep going straight from the exit and you will find Tokyo Monorail station and Keikyu station. Those are just a few steps away from.

Tokyo Monorail station will be on your left hand side. (C) JP Rail
Keikyu station will be on your right hand side. (C) JP Rail

It takes less than one minute to get the station from the exit of the immigration and the custom. Many station staffs are there to help you how to buy a ticket and find a direction. And also there are lots of signages in a few languages. It is very travelers friendly.

JR East Travel Service Center (JR Pass and other JR passes exchange place)

JR East Travel Service Center is next to Tokyo Monorail ticket gate. This photo was take in a few years ago. Now this travel center is bigger.

JR East has Travel Service Center at Tokyo Monorail Haneda Airport International Terminal station. You can exchange/purchase JR pass, JR East Pass, Tokyo Wide Pass and some more JR deals here. You can start using the pass right after you arrive at Haneda in Japan if you like. Please see the link below to find the detailed information:

JR East official site – Haneda Airport service center

If you arrive at Haneda in very early morning or very late night, you may not be able to exchange/purchase Pass. Shinagawa station or Tokyo station is the substitute choice.

JR Pass and all JR deals cover Tokyo Monorail only. You cannot take Keikyu Railway, Airport Limousine bus and any other bus services.

That means you can get Asakusa and other stations on Toei Subway directly from Haneda. Most of Airport Limited Express and Airport Express go through this subway line.

Hello We arrive fromAustralia Haneda airport 2/5/18 at 5.15am and depart Tokyo on the Norwegian Cruise line 6/5/18, what rail line is closest to where the ship will leave from, are we best to stay in central Tokyo close to rail to access the most we can see in 4 days and then rail to the wharf area. By looking at JR rail site the Bus delivers straight to our hotel whereas there is a train change to Tokyofrom Haneda & could be confusing. Having been an Art teacher I am keen to see Ceramics particularly the way Japanese potters put clay down for generations to come also to see art galleries , your fantastic traditional architecture and furniture as well as Japanese gardens so much to cover in 4 days. As well as Mt.Fuji thank you

Hi. If I buy the 24 hour airport + subway pass, does the 24 hours start when I ride from the airport on the Keikyu line or does the 24 start with my first subway ride?
    Thanks!

    Hi Takeshi,
Day 0 – Arrival late at Hanade airport, spend the night in airport.
Day 1 Tokyo (Stay in Shibuya area)
Day 2 Kamakura & Enoshima (Use Kamuka Enoshima Pass)
Day 3 Hakone (Fuji Hakone Pass)
Day 4 Lake Kawaguchiko (Fuji Hakone Pass)
Day 5 Back to Tokyo late, stay in Shibuya area, so will be using ICOCA card
    Day 6 Tokyo
Day 7 Tokyo, flight at 11.45pm

my concern is, on Day 1, I am thinking to buy the Welcome! Tokyo Subway ticket which inclusive of one way ticket from airport to Sengakuji Station and one day metro ticket for 24 hours.

for day 6 & 7, should I get the the same ticket for 48 hours. The one way tickets can travel from Sengakuji to the airport?

  4. Ruth says:

    Hi,
We arrived in Narita airport and will need to change to Haneda airport in August. Questions; is that far from each other? We arrived at 8:30 pm, is it pointless to go to Shibuya that late? We have a a day to spend, our flight is not till the next day, how do I get to Shibuya and what can I see to maximize our day?

  5. En Lam says:

Hi, I’ll be arriving at Haneda Airport on 2nd April and departing from Haneda Airport on 9th April.

I’ve planned my itinerary for Tokyo to Kyoto to Hakone and Nara. I would like to confirm if purchasing JR pass (7days) makes more sense for me?

first day (2/4)- arrival at Tokyo
    second day (3/4) – DisneySea
third day (4/4) – travel to Kyoto
    forth day (5/4) – Kyoto
fifth day (6/4) – Kyoto to Nara and spend half day at Nara and travel back to Tokyo
sixth day (7/4) – Tokyo to Hakone
    seventh day (8/4) – Tokyo
eighth day (9/4) – departure from Tokyo

I’d like to get your recommendation on my itinerary also, would it make sense for me to go to Osaka?

As my Arrival and Departure will be Tokyo, purchasing JR pass (7days) will be the most cost effective ways?

Thanks! Any recommendation will be good as it’s my first time to Japan.

    • Hi En Lam,

JR pass 7 days is recommended. You may use it for the last 7 days. On arrival day, just pay regular fare or use other deal.
      http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/value/airport_bus/index.html

Regarding trip to Osaka, it depends on how much you want to see Kyoto. At this point, you have 1.5 days in Kyoto. If you go to Osaka, you have to give up your time in Kyoto. If you want see all major spots in Kyoto, I don’t think you can get Osaka. You will use JR pass and you can get Osaka by this pass. So you can decide that you go or not when you are in Kyoto.

      Cheers,

    Hello.

I am planning to go from Haneda International airport to Ikebukuro and exploring some area.

My full itinerary will be as below :

[ Arrival track No.7 ] at Ikebukuro Station)

    b. Walk to Hibiya station.
    c. Hibiya – Shibakoen station (Toei subway Mita line for HIYOSHI)

    3. Zojoji to Odaiba.
    a. Shibakoen – Mita Station (Toei subway Mita line for HIYOSHI)
    b. Walk to Tamachi Tokyo station.
    c. Tamachi Tokyo – Oimachi station (JRKeihin-Tohoku/Negishi line local for KAMATA)

    Questions :
    1. Is above schedule is efficient?

    2. Will it be cheaper if i purchase keikyu / subway pass (JPY 1,300) for above schedule?

    3. In tokyo metro website, it is stated that the valid route for the pass is from Haneda
Airport Domestic Terminal Station or International Terminal Station to Sengakuji Station on the
    Keikyu Line.
Is it possible if i want to take off on Shinagawa station instead of Sengakuji station if i
use the pass which mentioned above?
I have learned that Shinagawa is one station before Sengakuji.

    Thank you in advance.

    • Hi Angelina,

      1. I suggest you to change only one segment. When you go to Shiodome from Odaiba, I recommend you to take Yurikamome.
      http://www.yurikamome.tokyo/
You can take it from Odaiba-Kaihinkoen or Daiba to Shiodome. You can get Shiodome directly.

      2. Yes. But it does not cover JR, Rinkai line and Yurikamome.

      3. Actually I have never tried it before. I think if you get off at Shinagawa, you have to pay for Shinagawa to Sengakuji. Please make sure when you purchase this ticket.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com
