Narita airport is well known as the international airport in Tokyo. But since the government allows Haneda to increase the slot of the international flights, the number of the international flights departs from and arrive at Haneda airport has been increasing in these days.

In this post, I would like to show you the access between Haneda airport and downtown Tokyo. I will explain you about the deals too.

Overview

Haneda is located in the metro Tokyo 23 municipalities. Haneda is much closer to downtown Tokyo than Narita.

You may get downtown Tokyo by Tokyo Monorail, Keikyu railway and Airport Limousine bus. In this post, I will explain about these access between airport and downtown Tokyo and some deals for these airport access. But before I explain this I would like to tell about the procedure of arrival.

How to find the way to get a bus or a train at Haneda airport international terminal

Actually it is quite simple. When you exit from the immigration and the custom area, you will see the hall, like the picture below.

You will find Airport Limousine bus ticket counter on your left hand side right after you exit from the immigration and the custom area.

Airport Limousine bus ticket counter

Just keep going straight from the exit and you will find Tokyo Monorail station and Keikyu station. Those are just a few steps away from.

Tokyo Monorail station will be on your left hand side. (C) JP Rail
Keikyu station will be on your right hand side. (C) JP Rail

It takes less than one minute to get the station from the exit of the immigration and the custom. Many station staffs are there to help you how to buy a ticket and find a direction. And also there are lots of signages in a few languages. It is very travelers friendly.

JR East Travel Service Center (JR Pass and other JR passes exchange place)

JR East Travel Service Center is next to Tokyo Monorail ticket gate. This photo was take in a few years ago. Now this travel center is bigger.

JR East has Travel Service Center at Tokyo Monorail Haneda Airport International Terminal station. You can exchange/purchase JR pass, JR East Pass, Tokyo Wide Pass and some more JR deals here. You can start using the pass right after you arrive at Haneda in Japan if you like. Please see the link below to find the detailed information:

JR East official site – Haneda Airport service center

If you arrive at Haneda in very early morning or very late night, you may not be able to exchange/purchase Pass. Shinagawa station or Tokyo station is the substitute choice.

JR Pass and all JR deals cover Tokyo Monorail only. You cannot take Keikyu Railway, Airport Limousine bus and any other bus services.

Tokyo Monorail

Tokyo Monorail

Tokyo Monorail runs between Haneda airport and Hamamatsucho. It takes 18 minutes by the fastest train, “Haneda Express” which stops at a few major stations only. It takes 23 minutes by other monorail trains.

You may find the information about Hamamatsucho station in the post below:

If you use JR Pass or other JR rail passes, Tokyo Monorail is covered and you may take this. However if you Keikyu Railway, you can get Shinagawa directly from Haneda and catch the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka. Even though Keikyu is not covered by JR Pass or other JR deals, please consider to pay extra and get Keikyu railway. It is much easier to take the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto or Osaka. I will explain about Keihin Kyuko Railway later.

If you take the Shinkansen to get Kanazawa, Toyama, Sendai, Hakodate, you can get Tokyo station by Tokyo Monorail and Yamanote line. You cannot catch the Shinkansen to these places at Shinagawa.

Keikyu is one of the major private railway companies in Tokyo. This railway connects Haneda airport and Shinagawa. It takes 16 to 18 minutes by the fastest train, Airport Limited Express. But Airport Limited Express is operated in daytime only. Most of trains are Airport Express. This train stops all stations between Haneda terminal and Keikyu-Kamata. And also it stops at a few stations between Keikyu-Kamata and Shinagawa. It takes about 25 minutes by Airport Express.

Keikyu Railway also runs on Toei Subway Asakusa line. Please see the route map at the beginning in this post. That means you can get Asakusa and other stations on Toei Subway directly from Haneda. Most of Airport Limited Express and Airport Express go through this subway line.

As I told you above, if you stay at the major hotel in other areas in Tokyo, you may take Airport Limousine bus.

    Plz help

    Hi Takeshi,
I planned to go to Japan on 30th June 2016, through Haneda.
I will stay at Sheraton Disney for 3 days.
How to go there from Haneda using train or bus?

On 5th July I will go to Osaka using Shikansen.
Where I can buy the ticket from?

    Thanks,
    Cynthia

    • Hi Cynthia,

You can get Disney Resort by limousine bus directly.
      http://www.limousinebus.co.jp/en/bus_services/haneda/tdr.html

Shinkansen ticket can be purchased at Maihama station in advance where is located near by Disneyland.

      Cheers,

Hi, my plane is scheduled to arrive at Haneda on 9am.
Do I need to wait until 11 am to catch the limo bus. Since I’m From Jkt-Indonesia, I will arrive at International airport. I have to go to terminal 1 or 2 to catch the 11am bus, right? Which one is nearer?
Although I will stay at Sheraton Disney, I prefer to have lunch and dinner not in the hotel>. Can you suggest nearest restaurant around Disney, and how to get there?

        Thanks.

        • Hi Cynthia,

I think 11 am bus is better because you will spend one hour to clear custom and immigration. You can take the train but you have to change the trains at least three times.
You can go either Terminal 1 or 2. It’s not much different.

You have to take Disney resort line to get Maihama station/Resort gateway station. There are lots of restaurants in Ikspiari.
          http://www.ikspiari.com/yokoso-iks/index.html

There is no restaurants around hotel area.

          Cheers,

  4. Lyana says:

    Hi Takeshi,

I will go to haneda airport from odaiba. But when I’m searching the best route thru Hyperdia, I’m a bit confuse whether to choose Haneda International Building or Terminal or Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. Need your advise. Thank you.

    • Hi Lyana,

If you arrive from international flight, you will take a train at Haneda Airport International Building or Haneda Airport International Terminal.
Haneda Airport International Building is Tokyo Monorail’s station. And Haneda Airport International Terminal is Keihin Kyuko’s station. As you see the post above, these two stations are located at same place.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

  6. Véronique BAE says:

    Hi,

We are planning a family trip (2 adults ans 2 childs of 8 and 10 years old) to Japan from february 8th to february 23rd.
    Here is our plan:
Monday 8th: We will arrive at Kansai International Airport terminal 1 at 9:45am. We need to go to Kyoto where is our house.
Tuesday 9th: Visit of Kyoto and Arashiyama
    Wednesday 10th: Go to Nara
Thursday 11th: Go to Osaka and spend the day there
    Friday 12th: Visit of Kyoto
Saturday 13th: Go back to Kansai International Airport for Seoul…

So for that part of the trip I was thinking about buying the “ICOCA & HARUKA” card for the adults and 1 day pass for the childs to go to Kyoto from the airport. Then for everyday travel, I thought about buying normal price train tickets as well as the last day for the childs to go back to the airport. What is your point of view?

Then we’ll come back to Japan on february 17th.
Wednesday 17th: Arrival at Haneda Airport. Go to Tokyo and then to Nikko.
    Thursday 18th: Nikko
Friday 19th: Go back to Tokyo
For these 3 days I thought about buying the JR Tokyo Wide Pass for the 4of us. Is it a good idea?

Saturday 20th: Visit of Tokyo, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya
Sunday 21st: Tokyo artificial island Odaiba
    Monday 22nd: Tokyo, Asakusa, Akihabara
    Tuesday 23rd: Narita International Airport
I thought that for these 4 days we could use the N’EX Tokyo Round trip ticket but it doesn’t seem possible to buy it somewhere else than in Narita Airport!

Thank you for giving me your advices about the best way to travel during our stay in Japon.

  7. Dave says:

    Dear JPRail,

I will reach Haneda airport by 10.30pm and I’m going to APA HOTEL

The advise that I have gotten so far is to take the bus to tokyo station then from there take the Keiyo line to Shiomi station.

Do you think I can make it on time? I’m not sure what’s the last departure time for the buses and trains 🙁

    Thank you!
