This deal, Mt. Fuji Round Trip Ticket was on sale in 2013 and 2014 during summer season only. Now this deal has just been back in 2015 season. If you have a plan to Mt. Fuji and other place, like Nikko or Kusatsu, Kanto Area Pass is better choice. But if you need a deal for trip to Mt. Fuji only, this pass is most suitable.

I show you the the detail about this pass and compare with other deals.

Price, sales period and validity

The price is same as 2014, 5600 yen and child rate is half, 2800 yen for 6 to 11 years old. Kid under 5 years old is free if you are okay to share the seat.

The ticket must be used in two consecutive days. And this ticket will be on sale from July 1 to November 29, 2015 and can be used until November 30.

This deal includes Tokyo – Otsuki round trip fare and limited express reserved seat surcharge. And unlimited travel is included in Otsuki – Kawaguchiko by Fuji Kyuko line and Mt. Fuji climbing bus to Mt. Fuji 5th station. Kanto Area Pass covers Fuji Kyuko line between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko. But any other JR deals do not include Mt. Fuji climbing bus. This is one of the biggest asset of this deal.

You will get other details of this deal at JR East official site.

Compare with regular fare

Limited Express Fujisan Tokkyu

Limited Express Fujisan Tokkyu of Fuji Kyuko line

If you have round trip between Shinjuku and Otsuki by JR limited express reserved seat during peak season (most of July and August), total cost is 5940 yen. So the deal is already cheaper than regular round trip fare to Otsuki. And you can take unlimited ride of Fuji Kyuko line and bus to 5th station. This gives you a great deal.

But if you intend to visit Lake Kawaguchi area only and do not visit 5th station, highway bus is better. One way fare to Kawaguchiko from Shinjuku is 1700 yen.

Compare with Kanto Area Pass

Kanto Area Pass covers not only Mt. Fuji but also Nikko, Kusatsu, Izu and many other spots surrounding Tokyo and valid 3 days. So if you intend to visit Fuji and other areas, like Nikko, Kanto Area Pass is obviously better deal. But some of you are not sure where you will go at this point. So I show you the difference between Mt. Fuji Round Trip Ticket and Kanto Area Pass for your planning.

By the way, the regular round trip fare of Fuji climbing bus to 5th station is 2100 yen. If you use Kanto Area Pass and want to go to 5th station, you have to add 2100 yen on top of the pass. So total cast will be more than 10000 yen.

If you will hang around Lake Kawaguchi only, Kanto Area Pass may be better because you can go other place by this pass. And if you complete trip to Fuji in one day, you have two more day trip by Kanto Area Pass.

So look at your trip plan and make sure where you want to go.

    Hi all,

How about from Tokyo to both Fujisan & Hakone?

Start the ascent up Mt. Fuji via the Fuji Subaru Line. Climb 2,300 meters (7,546 ft) above sea level for breathtaking views from above the clouds.
Go for a sightseeing cruise on Lake Ashi, from Kojiri to Hakone-en. This crater lake along the southwest wall of the caldera of Mt. Hakone was formed by a powerful volcanic eruption nearly 3,000 years ago, and provides postcard views of Mt. Fuji towering 30 km northwest.
And go to Mt. Komagatake Ropeway.

For above 1 day trip, estimate how much totally including transport?
    Thanks!

    Hi,

I’ll planning my honeymoon to Japan and hope you can help me with this query. I’m planning to do a Shinjuku-Hakone-Kawaguichiko-Gotemba-Shinjuku segment like this:

Day 1: Shinjuku to Hakone (overnight at Kawaguichiko)

Day 2: Kawaguichiko to 5th Station and Yamanakako (overnight at Kawaguichiko)

Day 3: Kawaguichiko to Gotemba Premium Outlet, then back to Shinjuku

Would you recommend that I purchase the Fuji Hakone Free Pass or the Hakone Free Pass?

If I travel from Shinjuku to Hakone by Romancecar, I’ll have to pay a surcharge of ¥890.

I wanted to also ask if I have to pay any surcharge if I take these buses:
    1. Kawaguichiko Sightseeing bus, Red Line
    2. Fujikko bus from Fujisan Station to Mt Fuji Yamanakako (Hotel Mt Fuji Iriguchi)
    3. Fuji-Goko bus or Fujikyoko bus from Mt Fuji Yamanakako to Kawaguichiko
    4. Bus from Kawaguichiko to Gotemba Premium Outlet (not sure which bus to take)
    5. Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus from Gotemba Premium Outlet to Shinjuku

Your suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!

    Hi Takeshi

I and my family will be visiting Japan in October and interested to purchase Mount Fuji round trip ticket. We noted that the validity is 2 consecutive days. We need a confirmation that the Round trip travel between the Tokyo metropolitan area and Otsuki Station must be done within 48 hours or 2 days? thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Marsha

    Dear Takeshi,

Thank you so much for your very helpful website! It has become my go-to guide in planning for the upcoming japan trip.

I am thinking of doing this itinerary:

30 Oct: Land in Narita airport, Narita- Shinjuku (hotel in shinjuku)
30 Oct to 3 Nov: Tokyo

3 Nov to 4 Nov: Lake Kawaguchi or Hakone (1 night)

4 Nov- 8 Nov: Kyoto (side trips to Nara and either Osaka or Kobe)

8 Nov: Back to tokyo, night flight out from Narita

    A few questions:
    1. Would you recommend Lake Kawayguchi or Hakone for more convenient transfer to Kyoto? It is our first time in Japan and we do not speak or read any japanese.

Also, if I buy a train ticket for Tokyo to Kyoto, are there any routes or tickets that allow a free stopover at any Fuji area? We do not need to be at Mount fuji itself, anywhere that offers a view would be good enough!

    2. Would you recommend getting the JR Pass?

    3. Are 2 way tickets on the Shinkansen cheaper or is it the same as buying 2 X 1 way tickets?

    4. Would you recommend any passes to buy in Tokyo? We intend to take the Narita Express two way ticket into and out of Tokyo. It is our first time in Tokyo so we intend to cover most of the typical attractions, including Tsujiki Market but will not be going to Disneysea/land.

Thank you very much for your time and help!

  6. Jia Min says:

    Hi Takeshi,

Does the Mt. Fuji round trip ticket covers for lines to go to Haneda Airport? Or do I need to travel to Tokyo before buying a new ticket to the airport?

    Thanks very much!

  7. joon says:

    Hi Takeshi

Regarding the “Mount Fuji Round Trip Ticket”, read that is available for “unlimited rides on the bus between Kawaguchiko Station and the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station”. To clarify, does this also apply to the retro bus and Fujikko Bus?

    Thanks you.

  8. John says:

    Hi Takeshi,
We have only 2 days in Tokyo.
We would like to explore Mt Fuji on the first day and travel within Tokyo (including Roppongi) on the second day.
Is it worth getting the Mt Fuji round trip pass?
What pass should we get on the second day to explore within Tokyo?
Does the Tokunai pass cover Roppongi?
    Thanks.

  9. theresa says:

    Hi Takeshi.
we will be visiting japan from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3. party of 5. I will arriving at Narita Airport and we will be staying at Otsuki Yamanashi. How do I get there from the airport?
We are planning to see as much as we can. Which train pass will you suggest for us for optimal use during our 11 days visit?
    Thank you very much.

  10. lisa says:

    Hi Takeshi,

Sorry, I only found this after I posting my question earlier (in diff thread).

So it’s mean, Narita Express only run in summer?

Can I take Narita Express at Shinjuku?

    Thx.

    • Hi Lisa,

The season has been extended. Narita Express goes to Kawaguchiko on weekend and holidays until November 30. As long as you take the train on JR lines, JR Pass covers it. But the pass does not cover any trains on other company’s line.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JP Rail
