About JPRail.com

I believe that a train is the best way to explore in Japan. Because many trains run very punctual and it is so reliable.

This website JPRail.com is unofficial website. JPRail.com does not have any connections with any railway companies in Japan. I started this website in 2009. When I started this website, I focused on how to use Japan Rail Pass. I tried to explain you to use Japan Rail Pass to its maximum! However many travelers want to learn many kinds of the rail pass other than Japan Rail Pass. Now I write the articles about other rail passes too, such as JR East Pass, Hokkaido Rail Pass, Tokyo Wide Pass, Tokyo Metro Pass, Kyoto City Pass, Kansai Thru Pass, Suica, ICOCA and many other rail passes and the deals.

If you cannot find any information in regards to the rail travel that you are looking for, please leave your comment on Forum page. I am very happy to give you some advice. But I am not your personal travel agent. Please do not ask me to make your travel plan. Please try to enjoy building your trip plan. The planning is the first step of your travel and it is lots of fun!

  1. Dear Takeshi-san,

I plan to visit Hokkaido around mid of Dec (2 adults & 1 boy-11 yo), and kindly comments and advise my concern as follow:

9-Dec: Depart from Singapore to Haneda
    10-Dec: Arrive Tokyo
    10-Dec ~ 12-Dec: F&E at Tokyo (Use Pasmo card)
12-Dec: depart from Haneda to Hakodate by Flight
    12-Dec ~ 14-Dec: 3D2N at Hakodate (Use JR Pass)
14-Dec: Depart from Hakodate to Sapporo in the morning (will catch up earliest train)
** Use JR Pass and take Super Hokuto Limited Express back to Sapporo. May I know can i alight at Noboribetseu & Toya station? I plan to alight at Noboritbetsu Station after 2.5 hour travelling. Proceed to visit the Noboribetsu Marine Park Nixe and Hell Valley. If too pack, i will stay a night near Noboritbesu. After visit these places or next day, will take train back to Sapporo.
15-Dec: Sapporo -> Otaru (will visit the interest places around such as Mt Moiwa, Shiroi Koibito Park, Glass Museum, TV Tower etc)

    Kindly comment

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Hi Serene san,

Your trip plan is feasible. You may drop by Noboribetsu on the way to Sapporo.

You mentioned that you will use JR Pass. But where are you going when you are in Hakodate? In Hakodate, you will take a tram or a city bus. These are not covered by JR Pass. I don’t think you have many chances to use the pass when you are in Hakodate.

For the trip from Hakodate to Sapporo, the fare is less than 10,000 yen. If you drop by Noboribetsu, the fare is higher but you cannot get the worth of the pass. Even if you use Hokkaido Rail Pass 3-day, the price is 17,000 yen. You cannot get the worth of even this 3-day pass.

So your choice is a regular ticket. It is much cheaper than using the pass.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

  • If you ask me the rail pass that fits your itinerary, please explain your travel plan in as much detail as possible. I can't choose the best pass on the rough itinerary.
