Narita airport is well known as the international airport in Tokyo. But since the government allows Haneda to increase the slot of the international flights, the number of the international flights departs from and arrive at Haneda airport has been increasing in these days.

In this post, I would like to show you the access between Haneda airport and downtown Tokyo. I will explain you about the deals too.

Overview

Haneda is located in the metro Tokyo 23 municipalities. Haneda is much closer to downtown Tokyo than Narita.

You may get downtown Tokyo by Tokyo Monorail, Keikyu railway and Airport Limousine bus. In this post, I will explain about these access between airport and downtown Tokyo and some deals for these airport access. But before I explain this I would like to tell about the procedure of arrival.

How to find the way to get a bus or a train at Haneda airport international terminal

Actually it is quite simple. When you exit from the immigration and the custom area, you will see the hall, like the picture below.

You will find Airport Limousine bus ticket counter on your left hand side right after you exit from the immigration and the custom area.

Airport Limousine bus ticket counter

Just keep going straight from the exit and you will find Tokyo Monorail station and Keikyu station. Those are just a few steps away from.

Tokyo Monorail station will be on your left hand side. (C) JP Rail
Keikyu station will be on your right hand side. (C) JP Rail

It takes less than one minute to get the station from the exit of the immigration and the custom. Many station staffs are there to help you how to buy a ticket and find a direction. And also there are lots of signages in a few languages. It is very travelers friendly.

JR East Travel Service Center (JR Pass and other JR passes exchange place)

JR East Travel Service Center is next to Tokyo Monorail ticket gate. This photo was take in a few years ago. Now this travel center is bigger.

JR East has Travel Service Center at Tokyo Monorail Haneda Airport International Terminal station. You can exchange/purchase JR pass, JR East Pass, Tokyo Wide Pass and some more JR deals here. You can start using the pass right after you arrive at Haneda in Japan if you like. Please see the link below to find the detailed information:

JR East official site – Haneda Airport service center

If you arrive at Haneda in very early morning or very late night, you may not be able to exchange/purchase Pass. Shinagawa station or Tokyo station is the substitute choice.

JR Pass and all JR deals cover Tokyo Monorail only. You cannot take Keikyu Railway, Airport Limousine bus and any other bus services.

If you use JR Pass or other JR rail passes, Tokyo Monorail is covered and you may take this. However if you Keikyu Railway, you can get Shinagawa directly from Haneda and catch the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka. Even though Keikyu is not covered by JR Pass or other JR deals, please consider to pay extra and get Keikyu railway. It is much easier to take the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto or Osaka. I will explain about Keihin Kyuko Railway later.

Keikyu is one of the major private railway companies in Tokyo. This railway connects Haneda airport and Shinagawa. It takes 16 to 18 minutes by the fastest train, Airport Limited Express. But Airport Limited Express is operated in daytime only. Most of trains are Airport Express. This train stops all stations between Haneda terminal and Keikyu-Kamata. And also it stops at a few stations between Keikyu-Kamata and Shinagawa. It takes about 25 minutes by Airport Express.

Keikyu Railway also runs on Toei Subway Asakusa line. Please see the route map at the beginning in this post. That means you can get Asakusa and other stations on Toei Subway directly from Haneda. Most of Airport Limited Express and Airport Express go through this subway line.

Dear Takeshi, My flight arrive 00.30 at Haneda, how can I get to my hotel at nearby TCAT? Thank you very much

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Raymond,

As far as I know, only Keikyu bus provide late night bus.
      http://hnd-bus.com/route/nightmorningbus.html
But you won’t be able to make it. Unfortunately I think only taxi is the way to get there. As you see above post, taxi fare is around 8000 yen. I think you should change your hotel near airport.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JP Rail

      • Raymond says:

        Dear Takeshi,

Thanks for your kind reply. Yes, with lots of search, there is no way to get there other than taxi as you rightly mentioned. We have changed to a nearby hotel at Haneda airport.

Thank you very much for you advice and confirmation.

        Have a nice day

        Raymond

I will be staying at Century Southern Hotel in Shinjuku and have a flight departing Haneda at 23:55 on a Sunday. The Airport Limousine Bus last departure to Haneda is at around 17:30…so that is not an option. I would like use the Suica card to take the JR from Shinjuku station to Shinagawa Station and then transfer to the Keikyu line to Haneda International terminal to be at airport by 22:00.
Does this sound like the best option? Thank you.

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Deb,

It makes sense. Obviously 17:30 is too early. JR and Keikyu transfer is much better.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JP Rail

      • Deb says:

        Hi Takeshi…
I appreciate your information. I have made the trip to Japan and will take the JR shinjuku to Shinagawa and then Keikyu line to Haneda International airport. I will be leaving on Hotel on Sunday evening. I will plan to leave by 20:45pm for 23:55 flight. Do you know if the trains will be full/busy at that time? I will be traveling with 12 & 10 year olds and our luggage.
        Thank you.

  3. Ken says:

    Hi Takeshi,

What’s the easiest way from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station? By train, monorail or limousine bus? My flights arrives at 10.30pm.

Bought the 7-day pass but understand that the counter opens at 7.30am.

    Many thanks.

    Regards,
    Ken

  4. Ye Tun says:

    Hi Takeshi,
I am Ye Tun and I will arrive Haneda at 20:30 and I will stay at Toyoko Inn, Shinagawa Oimachi. I already bought a JR Rail pass and learn that I could not exchange the pass late at night at Haneda. Could you advise me the best access to my hotel, Toyoko Inn, Shinagawa Oimachi.
    Bgrds,
    Ye Tun

    • JPRail says:

      HI Ye Tun,

Take Keihin Kyuko to Shinagawa. And then transfer to JR line to Oimachi. This is the best way.
Or, Samezu station on Keihin Kyuko line is located within walking distance (about 700m). Samezu is located between Haneda and Shinagawa. If your luggage is not a big, this option can be considerable.
You can check the schedule at Hyperdia.

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Phil,

Haneda (Monorail) Hamamatsucho (JR Yamanote line) Tokyo (Nagano Shinkansen)

This is the easiest and fastest. It is quite easy to change the train at Hamamatsucho. You cannot miss it.

      Cheers,

  8. Bryan says:

Hello there, thanks for the great information! As it will be my first time to Japan, I am still quite confused over the rail and buses transport. I will be arriving at Haneda 23:00 which is late 11pm. Can you kindly advise me on how I can get to Heiwajima Train Station which is near to my hotel? Are there still trains or buses available to Heiwajima after 23:00? Thanks!

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Bryan,

      Please see the following post:
      https://jprail.com/trains/sort-by-type/private-company/how-to-take-tokyo-monorail-or-keihin-kyuko-for-late-arrival-and-early-departure-at-haneda.html

Heiwajima is on the way to Shinagawa. Keihin Kyuko is available.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JP Rail

      • Bryan says:

        Hi Takeshi,

Thanks for the fast response! But I am still quite confused over some of the information. In the link, you mentioned “Don’t think about overnight trains and buses on arrival day. You cannot catch those after 22:00 arrival.”

Does that mean if I arrive 23:00 at Haneda Airport, I have to take a taxi to my hotel?

        Access to Shinagawa

        Weekday : Haneda 00:01 -> (Keihin Kyuko Airport Express) -> 00:23 Shinagawa

        – Does this mean the last train towards Shinagawa from Haneda departs at 00:01? I can still take this train towards Heiwajima?

        Thanks alot!
        Have a nice day Takeshi.

        • JPRail says:

          Hi Bryan,

I mean long transfer overnight train.

I have received many questions about using overnight train to Osaka or Hokkaido after arrival. That’s why I wrote it.

In your case, it is not overnight train that I mean. As long as you flight arrive on time, it will be okay.

          Cheers,

          Takeshi / JP Rail

          • Bryan says:

That means I have 61mins to rush to the train station upon accurate arrival at 11pm. Thanks Takeshi! Appreciate your help!

  9. Chris says:

    Hi Takeshi!
My flight is scheduled to touch down Haneda Airport at 11pm. I’m planning to travel to Ikebukuro by train upon arrival. The mentioned train itinerary in certain websites is as follow:

    Haneda 00:10 -> (Tokyo Monorail) -> 00:25 Hamamatsucho 00:31 -> (JR Yamanote line) -> 01:06 Ikebukuro.

As I reach at Hamamatsucho station, I need to change to JR Yamanote line to Ikebukuro in 6 minutes time! I want to know if I can make it in 6 minutes?!

    Please enlighten me!

    Thanks!

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Chris,

It is completely no problem. Just go down the stairs and go through transfer gate. I did it in 3 minutes before.

  10. Reena says:

Hello Takeshi, I arrive at Tokyo on Dec 29, 2012 and will travel to Nagano via Shinkansen on that day, I bought 7-day JR Pass, that means I can only use it up till Jan 4, 2013, but on Jan 5, 2013, I am travelling back to Tokyo from Inuyama assuming via Nagoya back to Tokyo. If I can’t use JR Pass, may I know what is the cheapest way to get back to Tokyo please ? Thank you very much.

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Reena,

You cannot use Japan Rail Pass on Jan 5 as you guess. There are lots of way to get Tokyo from Nagoya. You can get Nagoya from Inuyama by Meitetsu.
      http://www.meitetsu.co.jp/english/

I think highway bus is the cheapest. But I cannot find which one is the cheapest because it is too many. You can get some more info at the following link:
      http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2366.html

Travel time by bus is much longer than Shinkansen. It takes less than 2 hours by Shinkansen. But it takes more than 6 hours by bus. You can get some fares by bus at the link above. You can find the fare by Shinkansen at Hyperdia.
      http://www.hyperdia.com/en/

      Cheers,
