Narita airport is well known as the international airport in Tokyo. But since the government allows Haneda to increase the slot of the international flights, the number of the international flights departs from and arrive at Haneda airport has been increasing in these days.

In this post, I would like to show you the access between Haneda airport and downtown Tokyo. I will explain you about the deals too.

Overview

Haneda is located in the metro Tokyo 23 municipalities. Haneda is much closer to downtown Tokyo than Narita.

You may get downtown Tokyo by Tokyo Monorail, Keikyu railway and Airport Limousine bus. In this post, I will explain about these access between airport and downtown Tokyo and some deals for these airport access. But before I explain this I would like to tell about the procedure of arrival.

How to find the way to get a bus or a train at Haneda airport international terminal

Actually it is quite simple. When you exit from the immigration and the custom area, you will see the hall, like the picture below.

You will find Airport Limousine bus ticket counter on your left hand side right after you exit from the immigration and the custom area.

Airport Limousine bus ticket counter

Just keep going straight from the exit and you will find Tokyo Monorail station and Keikyu station. Those are just a few steps away from.

Tokyo Monorail station will be on your left hand side. (C) JP Rail
Keikyu station will be on your right hand side. (C) JP Rail

It takes less than one minute to get the station from the exit of the immigration and the custom. Many station staffs are there to help you how to buy a ticket and find a direction. And also there are lots of signages in a few languages. It is very travelers friendly.

JR East Travel Service Center (JR Pass and other JR passes exchange place)

JR East Travel Service Center is next to Tokyo Monorail ticket gate. This photo was take in a few years ago. Now this travel center is bigger.

JR East has Travel Service Center at Tokyo Monorail Haneda Airport International Terminal station. You can exchange/purchase JR pass, JR East Pass, Tokyo Wide Pass and some more JR deals here. You can start using the pass right after you arrive at Haneda in Japan if you like. Please see the link below to find the detailed information:

JR East official site – Haneda Airport service center

If you arrive at Haneda in very early morning or very late night, you may not be able to exchange/purchase Pass. Shinagawa station or Tokyo station is the substitute choice.

JR Pass and all JR deals cover Tokyo Monorail only. You cannot take Keikyu Railway, Airport Limousine bus and any other bus services.

However if you Keikyu Railway, you can get Shinagawa directly from Haneda and catch the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka. Even though Keikyu is not covered by JR Pass or other JR deals, please consider to pay extra and get Keikyu railway. It is much easier to take the Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto or Osaka. Keikyu is one of the major private railway companies in Tokyo. This railway connects Haneda airport and Shinagawa. It takes 16 to 18 minutes by the fastest train, Airport Limited Express. But Airport Limited Express is operated in daytime only. Most of trains are Airport Express. This train stops all stations between Haneda terminal and Keikyu-Kamata. And also it stops at a few stations between Keikyu-Kamata and Shinagawa. It takes about 25 minutes by Airport Express.

The train runs every 5 minutes during daytime and 10 minutes during early morning and late night.

Keikyu Railway also runs on Toei Subway Asakusa line. Please see the route map at the beginning in this post. That means you can get Asakusa and other stations on Toei Subway directly from Haneda. Most of Airport Limited Express and Airport Express go through this subway line.

    hi,
I’m going to tokyo this coming december and planning to book a vacation rental near harajuku station area.
Do you hava any idea how to go to that area from Haneda airport. we will be arriving around 22.30.
will it be possible if i take a airport limo bus?

    thanks alot for your assistance.

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Zara,
As long as your flight arrive on time, you can take monorail+JR train, Limousine bus and Keikyu trains+subway. But Limousine bus do not go to Harajuku. You need to take the bus to Shibuya and take train or taxi to your accommodation.
I think the fastest way to get Harajuku from Haneda is Monorail and JR train. Take Monorail to Hamamatsucho and transfer to Yamanote line to Shinjuku/Shibuya. Harajuku is next station of Shibuya.
You still have a lot of time. The schedule might be changed before you depart. Check Limousine bus schedule and trains schedule before departure.

    Hi JPRail,

My flight arrives at 23:50 in Haneda Airport. I need to exchange my JR Pass because I’ve to go Osaka in early morning. But JR Office at Haneda opened at 11:00.

Where is JR office that I can exchange and the fastest and cheapest way to get from Haneda Airport?

    Thank you.

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Kaew,
Tokyo station is the best. They open at 07:30am. This is the earliest.
Shinagawa is the closest from Haneda. But they open at 09:00am

  5. Nich says:

Hi, I saw you mention that the taxi from HND to Ikebukuro past midnight with surcharge will be approximately Y12000. However, I came across this site http://www.taxi-tokyo.or.jp/teigaku/from.html and it is a flat rate of Y9000. Can you please take a look as I cannot read Japanese?

Will you also be able to let me know where I should get the taxi ticket? Is it from inside the airport building? Thank you so much.

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Nich,
You are right. I did not know about this flat rate. 9000 yen is a flat rate to Ikebukuro. But if you travel in midnight, you need to pay another 20% of the amount. So it comes 10800 yen.
I have never heard to buy a ticket at Haneda. But most of taxi take cash and credit card. You don’t need to buy a ticket in my opinion.

  6. Chris says:

    Hi JP Rail,

What is the fastest and cheapest way to get from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station as I wish to exchange my JR Pass in Tokyo Station (they operates from 7:30am). And what time does the train operates in the morning?

    Thanks!

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Chris,
You have two ways to get Tokyo station.
It is almost same via Shinagawa by Keihin Kyuko and Yamanote line or via Hamamatsucho by Monorail and Yamanote line.
But it is easier to transfer at Hamamatsucho. Shinagawa is way bigger station than Hamamatsucho. Both Keihin Kyuko and Monorail start to operate trains around 5:30 to 6:00. Check the exact schedule at Hyperdia.

  7. JJ says:

    Dear JR Rail,

As you told me about the big problem of JR pass that is the service hours of service information center at Haneda Airport.
If I would like to go to Kyoto in early morning, how should I do?
Many thanks for your reply mail.

    JJ

    • JPRail says:

      Hi JJ,
Do you mean you will exchange your pass at Kyoto? If so, it is no problem. Because they open from 5:30 to 23:00.
      Takeshi / JP Rail

  8. Kate says:

Hi JPRail. I want to ask some questions about tokyo monorail and JR rail pass. I understand that I can’t use JR pass for monorail when I’m arriving HND airport because my flight arrived at 22.30. But Can I use the JR rail pass with monorail for my return flight , from Hamamatsucho to HND airport ?

    Thanks for your reply.

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Kate,
      Of course, you can.
JR pass include Tokyo Monorail. It is totally no problem with using a pass for Monorail. But the problem is the service hours of service information center at Haneda. They open only 11:00 to 18:30. That’s why we cannot turn in the pass when most of you arrive at Haneda.
Once you turn in the pass, you can take Monorail.
      Takeshi / JP Rail

  9. DQ says:

    Hi there,

    Our Flight arrives at 2305hr.
Would you know what would be the estimated Taxi fare from Haneda Airport to Metropolitan Ikebukuro?

Many thanks in advance for your kind assistance!

  10. Desmond says:

    Hi Takeshi san,

I was browsing thru this website and saw this 2 passes available in Haneda airport
    http://www.haneda-tokyo-access.com/en/info/discountticket.html#path02

1)Keikyu Haneda and subway common pass
    2)Tokyo Travel One-Day Pass & Two-Day Pass

Do you recommend me to get this pass instead of buying regular tickets to Tokyo Station?
Will be landing in 22.30 and if i buy the tickets once i landed when the clock turn 12 midnite my pass will be expired or it will be till 22.30 the following day? I will be around Tokyo for the following day before heading to Osaka and Kyoto.

I would also like to ask if i can buy this pass some where around Tokyo or its only available in Haneda airport? Planning to buy it and use together with my JR Pass so can have all my train & subway rides covered. 🙂

    Thanks

    • JPRail says:

      Hi Desmond,
Don’t buy the pass on arrival day. It will be expired on the day of purchase. Buy a single ticket on arrival day. And you can buy subway day pass for exploring Tokyo.
See this link about the detail of the pass. And also one of my post may help you.
Anyway the day pass is enough for sightseeing Tokyo. You can buy it at any subway station anytime.
