  1. Hi Takeshi,

My wife and I are getting a 7 days JR pass and plan to use the pass to top up for a Sunrise Twin on Sunrise Izumo during late October.
Are we able to book the room online or like 3 months advance at Tokyo before we got the JR pass?
    Thank you~

    1. Hi Robin,

Unfortunately you cannot book it online. And also you need to exchange and get the actual JR pass to book this train.
The ticket is on sale one month before departure date.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

  2. I plan to take the Sunrise Izumo from Tokyo to the Izumo shrine in mid March, 2 adults and 2 children (4 year old and 2 year old). We look forward to experience the berth bedroom. Which ones do you recommend? We will mainly travel by public transportation in Tokyo and take the train to Kyoto. Should I get a JR pass? Do I need to get tickets for my children or do they travel free with us? Thank you!

    1. Hi Winnie,

If you are okay with sharing the bed with your children, Sunrise Twin is most recommended. This type is only compartment that all of your family stay in same room. But the bed width is only 70cm. Even though your child is small, bet is very very tight. And also Sunrise Twin is very hard to book because there are a few compartments. If you cannot book Sunrise Twin, next option is single delux. This room has more spacious room and bed. It’s much easier to share the bed with your children.

Sunrise Izumo is very popular train. There is no online booking is available. It may be booked out when you try to book after you arrive in Japan. Please prepare back up plan in case of sold out.

I recommended 7 days JR Pass. 14 days is too much.

You don’t need to have JR Pass for children because 5 years old or less with adult passenger is free. However you have to share the seat. If you want to gi own seat for your children, you must buy child pass for your children too.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

  3. My friends and I (four of us in total) are planning to take the nobi nobi train at the beginning of June. However, two of them are arriving to Japan later than us so I was wondering if the two arriving earlier could reserve seats for the other two to avoid the risk of the reservations being sold out.
    Thank you

  4. Hi Takeshi San,

We are planning to take the overnight train from Okayama to Tokyo on 22nd March 2015. Can we book this train once we are in Japan or before that? (we are purchasing 7 day JR pass). Thank you in Advance.

    1. Hi Nathan san,

You cannot book it before you arrive in Japan. It’s hard to say that you can make it or not. If you want to use this train in your plan, please prepare back up plan in case of booked out.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

  5. Takeshi San:

If I buy the Japan Rail Pass overseas online and ask someone in Tokyo to reserve or pay for the additional charge for the “Single” at the JR counter, will that do?

    1. Hi Alex san,

You can do it. Single accommodation charge is not covered by JR pass anyway. And the ticket can be used by anyone because it does not show any personal information. So if you ask someone to book it for you, ask him/her to book only limited express surcharge ticket + accommodation ticket. Base fare is covered by JR pass. And it’s not required to buy base fare ticket at same time. Your JR Pass will cover this portation.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

  6. Takeshiさん、
    >>I continue here>>

Ugh, because that’s a peak season, during school holiday & cherry blossom… and can’t reserve by online (>,<)

I'll arrive at Haneda ariport on March, 28. Can I directly booking after I got the JR Pass at Haneda airport, or need other Midori-no-Madoguchi office ?
(ex: Shibuya, Shinjuku, ueno or Ikeburo)
    source: http://www.eki-net.com/pc/jreast-shinkansen-reservation/English/wb/common/ticketwindow/index.html

-note: I'm planing to use JR PASS 1st day on, March 30 or 31st , when I want go to Hiroshima from Tokyo-

And is it possible that non reserve seat is sold out also?
Means if I take a risk to still going without nobunobu, and when I get in the rain the the non-reserve seat also sold out?
Or is same way, whatever I choice NR/R I still registration/confirmation to Midori-no-Madoguchi office?

sorry for complicated question m(_ _)m
    Regards,
    Nan.

    1. Hi Nan san,

Of course, you can book it at Haneda.
First of all, Sunrise Izumo and Sunrise Seto do not have any non reserved. If it’s sold out, you cannot take this train. You have to find the place to stay. In this case, you have to take Shinkansen all the way to Hiroshima.
The choice is yours whether you can take this risk or not.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail.com

  7. Dear Takeshi,

I have one question too. I live in Tokyo and need to go to Matsue. Can you precise the price (basic fare+surcharge) for Nobinobi seat to go there ?

Thank you very much for your help !

  8. Hi Takeshi,
Just wondering about the shower room on the train. I saw on some other page the shower card can be bought from a vending machine, not from the conductor. Is this true?

Can you still buy towels onboard the train or would I have to buy one before boarding?

Is soap included in the shower?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Alexy,

Oops. You are right. It’s sold at the vending machine. I will update it later. Thank you very much for letting me know.
You cannot buy towels and any other items. But shampoo and body soap are prepare in the shower room. You have to prepare the towels before on board.

      Cheers,

      Takeshi / JPRail

      1. Thank you for your reply. I read that you could buy commemorative towels by the conductor. I guess this is not possible anymore?

Is it possible to buy a towel in convenience stores perhaps?
I will be riding from Izumoshi so I dont got as many options as in Tokyo.
